I've picked water almost every time. My brother got Blue version and started a game with Bulbasaur, but his file got deleted so he let me start one with Squirtle. Eventually I got a copy of Red and I started with Charmander because I'd already seen the other two. I honestly didn't like the Ruby/Sapphire starters very much, but I went with Treeko. I've picked water for every other game though

I prefer grass type, mainly because they may not be the fastest type, but they sure can back a punch.
