The original NES version of StarTropics came with a physical letter that you would dip in water in order to get a code to progress in the game. You're told to use the letter by Dr. Jones, many players thought that they were referring to an item in the game, leading to mass confusion. This led to Nintendo Power publishing the code on the paper (which is 747, by the way) in their "Consuelor's Corner" section. In the credits of the game, scenes from the game are shown. the wet letter with the code on is shown.
The Virtual Console release came with a digital version of the letter inside the Operations Guide that you would dunk into virtual water.
