The Peach's Castle stage in the original Smash Bros. actually does not take place on Peach's Castle as it can be clearly be seen in the background.

In fact, it actually takes several elements from Super Mario 64 (seeing as it was the latest Mario game released at the time) such as the trees and the sign.
The tower that appears seem to resemble the one that appears on top of Thwomp's Fortress in some missions.

I don't know if this would qualify as actual trivia, but I thought it was cool to post anyway.
