N-N-No. Of course not. I don't activly collect games I like. I don't need every version of Prince of Persia or Power Rangers. That would be stupid.

I like have a full set of something, and if I know that I'll play it agien (or would be a great LP someday) I'll keep it around. If not, I have a "local" used book/game/movie/CD/entertainment store that I can trade them into. I'll also trade it in if it's useless compared to another copy I have (I.E. I have a copy of Fable. I'm going to sell/trade it after my copy of Fable: The Lost Chapters comes in).

The Prince of Persia series are the exception to the last thought. I plan to own every game, no matter if I have the same thing but under a different name. I own two copys of the Two Thrones (one for PS2 and one for Wii) and I plan on getting it for GC, Xbox, and PSP.
If you actually own every single Kingdom Hearts game, I respect you and your infinintley deep wallet.
I said that I do, but it's more that I try to. While I do have every Ratchet, Jak and Sly game, HD collections included, there are a lot of games for longer lasting or older franchises I'm missing. I don't have every Tales game for example, even though I've never played a bad one. I also only own three Persona games. I do have almost every pokemon game though. I the only ones I'm missing there are yellow. Platinum and Alpha Sapphire. I'm nowhere near collecting all the Final Fantasy games and good God if you have all 80+ of those I do not envy you. I do have all of some game franchises but only if they were released in the US.
If I start from the beginning and it isn't a problem to actually play the series itself (as in multiple consoles, some of which I don't have) then probably. Exceptions are the Sims where I might like going to college IRL more then in the virtual space.
Yes. A million times yes. WHY DO YOU THINK I HAVE THAT GOD AWFUL MISSIONS GAME STILL ON MY PHONE?!?

My Resident Evil collection is almost perfect apart from a couple of pieces, namely Zer0 (still waiting for that HD release since no GC/Wii), Gaiden (finding one CiB, in reasonable condition and for a reasonable price is surprisingly difficult), a physical copy of Chronicles Collection (I do have them as digital, though) and the nearly impossible to get Chinese version of Survivor on PC. Now, I don't plan to own every version of every game, just one of each in physical form. And Survivor on PC. Through random deals and people giving me stuff I do own a few extra versions of some of the games.

I put it all in the spoilers, including the reasons why I have the extra versions, if anyone's interested.
I guess I'm also missing a few of the mobile games but since a lot of them are just more Missions, only in Japanese, only for iOS, mere shooting galleries with no story or mobile releases of existing games I've decided to pass on them.

At this point I have even gone the extra length and started getting pretty much anything related to the series, like Haunting Ground, Sweet Home and all Dino Crisis games sans 3, and even games that have drawn inspiration from either RE or DC, like Carrier and Blue Stinger. No Devil May Cry, though. Not my kinda game. I'm not too picky with this extra stuff.

Btw. This thread needs pictures.
I try, but more or less I just like collecting games if I can find the.

I mean, yeah I'd love to own games that I love. Currently I'm trying to get all the Phoenix Wright games since I only ever downloaded them to play back when I was a kid, currently I own the first game, Dual Destines and Prof Layton vs Phoenix Wright but I'm hopefully going to own them all. Yes, even a Japanese copy of AAI2 if I can get my hands on one.

Usually if an opportunity falls into my hands of obtaining a game or collectors editions I wouldn't have gotten otherwise. I get it. Such as how I got the MGR special edition that comes with a raiden figure.

For something like Devil May Cry though, I skipped two and haven't bothered with dmc:DMC and as for Halo, I can't be asked to finish that shitty spartan phone game so I usually ignore some of those types of games even if I love the series.

Metal Gear Solid is a great example for a lot of us. We have all probably played MGS1, 2, 3, 4, Rising, Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain, but how many of us have played the originals on the MSX, Ghost Babel, Portable Ops, Peace Walker and Ac!d 1 and 2? We may love the series, but playing and obtaining all the games is a long and tedious process that may not even be beneficial in the end.

Fallout is another example, I've finished 1, 2, 3 and NV, but haven't touched Tactics or Brotherhood of Steel. I have no real need to and don't feel like collecting or playing them.
Where's the option "my wallet is not big enough to buy all of them and feed my two kids, two dogs and wife and pay child support"? Ahh, I'll go with just getting the big games.
The way I've done it is kind of weird. I love the Zelda series, but I can't go further back than Wind Waker, because that's where I started, and any Zelda game older than that just does not interest me. This also applies to the 3D Mario games. I started with Sunshine and have only bought the 3D Mario games afterward and nothing before it. I just can't get into the older games for whatever reason.
^

You should really break out of that habit, it's actually pretty bad since you're not going to get a feel of the whole Zelda and Mario series.

Like I thought Zelda 2 was shit, turned out it's actually super fun, and a really good entry to the series. I would've never found that out unless I played and finished it.

Me too, except "my wallet is not big enough to buy all of them and feed my husband, cat, and pay our bills".

I went with 'no series is perfect'. I chose that one because I looove Zelda, but i'm not big on the "toon" style games, but I love the first couple of games (people seem to hate them, especially The Adventure of Link for some reason), so I absolutely have those. So basically, I get MY favorite games in a series, not just the "big" games, but not every single one.

Just so you know, I wrote all that without seeing the two posts above mine.
See, everyone thinks Zelda II sucks. I swear it doesn't!
It's not a habit, I 've just never been interested in any of the older games. I still think they're great games and I've watched people play them, but I am just not interested in them.

Why don't people like Zelda II? I think it's pretty good. I like it more than the first game.

Same reason people prefer the POS Mario Lost Levels over Mario USA. Because their stupid.

That being said, I don't care for the orignal LoZ. It's just.... not fun. I prefer A Link to the Past, Majora's Mask, and Twilight Princess.

I don't really have anything to contribute to this conversation, as I'm not a huge fan of any Zelda, but I just wanted to say that I think it's funny that you used the wrong "they're" when calling people stupid :P

Maybe he is referring to the peoples' stupid as an object/item, like "their stupidity knows no bounds?"

Also, Mario 2 USA is a way better game that the Lost Levels. The Lost Levels is a game that feels like it was meant to be frustrating rather than fun. Mario 2 USA is actually enjoyable. If there is ever a Mario game I won't own, it'd be The Lost Levels.

(smoothly tied that in with the question).
