Full Version: Broken Characters

Hi everyone! I recently fixed a major issue that I only just discovered the solution for. The result is that special characters (including character sets from other languages) now display natively and properly on all pages. The bad news is that, given the old incomplete configuration, any special characters submitted prior to yesterday were re-encoded and are now broken as a result. I've fixed the most prevalent ones (single and double quotes copied from Word, dashes that were converted to emdashes, and bullet points that were mis-entered) but I'm sure there's plenty more out there. In particular, Japanese characters are definitely broken and I already fixed one of them today. Should you find any odd looking characters while browsing the site, please report them so I can fix it.

Thanks!
For example this: http://www.vgfacts.com/trivia/3293/ and a lot of other trivia that has Japanese or otherwise different characters from the regular English characters seem to have all those characters broken.

Even company names, such as Technōs, suffer from this: http://www.vgfacts.com/developer/techns/

Not sure if it's just my computer but it would seem only this site does this. I've managed to fix this in one of my pending trivia by just manually editing it and it seems to still be fixed. Thought I'd point this out here instead of just spamming reports, especially since it seems to be pretty widespread.
Yup - this is a known issue and covered here: http://www.vgfacts.com/forums/thread-3548.html

I fixed the developer but I don't have the original text for the trivia you linked. Hopefully someone else does.
Aw, dangit, sorry. I just noticed that. Should probably have checked news first, instead of just discussion. Anyway, I'll add the correct words if I find them via reports on the ones I saw.

EDIT: reported the two I saw while browsing
Thanks! I'll try to get around to fixing them tonight.
I have found many broken characters in the Pokémon trivia. If you prefer to have each trivia flagged, I'll try to do just that. After a few times I flagged trivia, I figured I'd ask if anyone just wants to check the Pokémon trivia out or work from flagged trivia since I don't know which would be easier.
Definitely easier to work from flagged trivia than to sift through everything. Thanks!
Welcome. I'll jump on it when I get a chance.
