Considering how long Mario has been going on and how games are still produced each year, I do have to wonder if there will ever be another series as legendary or that have left such as an impact as Mario has. Makes me wonder as I don't see the series dying off anytime soon.
Maybe during when Sega and Nintendo were actively competing, I guess they were somewhat close.
Now not even Japan likes Sonic much anymore. North America seems to be the only prominent audience of his now.
It's easy. Go up to any random person in the street and say Mario.
I'll bet you 10 bucks they'll be like: "Like, Super Mario?"
Then try it with someone else and say Sonic.
Of course, this tactic won't work in Italy where there's a lot more Marios.
I think they are both legends ... but in different ways. Mario is a living legend, top of his game and known to everyone. Sonic is ... "Oh yeah, he used to be a thing" kinds of legendary these days.

Sonic? I LOVE THEIR SMOOTHIES.
Haha, I'll bet you with the way the fandom is growing, most people nowadays would go "SCREWDRIVER!?" and then pull out a Fez they just happen to carry with them at all times.
Well come on guys, how many shitty Progressive commercials has Mario been in?

ANIME EXPERT HO.
There's been an anime movie of Sonic that's not that good. Also, presidents daughter is a twat in the movie.
I feel sorry for the blue dude with a tude. If Only He gets his fans back in Japan.
