RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - MexicanAnime - 05-08-2013 (05-06-2013, 09:22 PM)Ghost Nappa Wrote: My friend told me to read Death Note, so I did. Well, not all of it anyway. I'd say it's good. I want to know what you guys think of it though. While you'll meet some people who would say that it's "overly complex and deep with themes", it's a series that you're just suppose to have fun with and treat it like a roller coaster. It's a really well done series and I hope you enjoy. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - Hexadecimal - 05-08-2013 As most popular series are Death Note was a tad over hyped but without a doubt worth the read, and the anime is good since it really only deviates from the manga near the end. I liked the manga ending better since it had more Ryuk, but the anime did a good job as well. After a certain character dies the manga loses a tiny bit of intensity, and there's two middle volumes that are a chore to get through, but otherwise I was pretty impressed with it. But read Hyper Police, folks. It's hilarious. Plus I want to talk about it with someone. I feel like the only person on the planet who has read it. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - retrolinkx - 05-09-2013 RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - MexicanAnime - 05-10-2013 After finishing Code Geass R2, I have come to the conclusion that the series has some pretty bad writing, especially in season 2. The whole story of the show is driven by plot conveniences which come out of no where many times, to the point where it was too silly to be taken seriously to where I just paused the video and laughed or sighed at what I had just witnessed. However, I almost don't care. While this does cause the show to bump down for me, the show overall is very fun and bombastic with its colorful characters and scenes of triumph that may come from either side of the show. Despite the large cast, never once did I feel that the show was flooded with characters as it was to the point where I felt that any of the characters could become the main protagonists as there was many that are fleshed out quite well. While I know many people would pick Lelouch as their favorite character, I'm actually going to have to go with a side character as my favorite despite liking Lelouch. The one I'm referring to is good old Orange Boy, Jeremiah. While I do have my gripes with multiple scenes, some scenes were done incredibly well and there's two that I want to specifically point out. While I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped, I still had a blast with the series and I'm glad I finally caved in and watched the show. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - Combat Lobster - 05-12-2013 So after a few streams under my belt I think now I can say that I'll try to do one stream on every other Friday. So next one will be this Friday @ 3:00 P.M. Central Time and I'm gonna try to do a theme for this one. (And that being I'm doing Movie night.) So anybody that might be there have a movie in mind that you would want to see let me know. (I'll even let you pick the time-slot to show it.) Anyways I went to the book store last week and I noticed Capcom finally got around to localizing the Phoenix Wright manga. (And not that semi-crappy Doujin stuff they tried to sell me for 15$.) So, now I'm on the fence on whether or not I want to buy it. On one hand, I can finally see the ending to the spiderman murder case, but the other 10.95$ a volume. (You can obviously tell I haven't purchase manga in a while.) RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - Mass Distraction - 05-13-2013 Great, you decide to have the stream on those Fridays I have to work :/ That means no streams for me... Well, I thought of doing that, but I AM flexible time-wise. It's really not an issue of time with me, it's an issue of date. I work on Saturdays on every other weekend which means that I'll go to sleep around 7 to 9pm my time. That's about 11am to 1pm CST. I'll also be working on those Fridays which means that I'll get home about 2pm my time, 6am CST. Basically that means I'm only around 6 to 11 am on every other Friday. Replace the word 'time' with 'date' done. I can do the stream anytime/date. I just don't want to do the stream and nobody show up. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - Combat Lobster - 05-13-2013 Anyways I'm gonna start a new thread so I won't be mucking up this thread with barely relevant posts (And attempt to generate more interest.); and I'll postpone the movie stream to next week to compensate for Mass.(That way there's a chance I won't be flying solo for half the stream.) RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - Mass Distraction - 05-14-2013 Yay! Now I can take part in the animes! I love you man. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - MexicanAnime - 05-17-2013 I'd never thought I would say this about a slice of life/comedy anime, but Nichijou has to have some of the most fluid animation and detail I have ever seen in a series. They don't cut corners and there was much money and skill thrown into this. Plus, it has clever comedic writing to boot! Of course, it's a shame that this series sold very poorly, which is odd considering the studio behind it. Instead, much of the money is going to the muck that is known as K-On rather than this show. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - Mass Distraction - 05-17-2013 So, I just learned that there's a Gon anime. Now I totally need to see it. Funny thing that you mention the show as I just started watching it :D I kinda get a Cromartie vibe from it, just less crude. As for K-ON, I recently bought and read the manga and I actually quite liked it. I'll propably buy the next two sequels mangas when they release here. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - MexicanAnime - 05-17-2013 I often hear from K-On fans that some of them despise the anime but like the manga, so I may give it a shot one day. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - JiraiyaSennin - 05-17-2013 (03-16-2013, 10:56 PM)Lightmatt Wrote: I used to watch a good bit of anime, but I kinda grew out of it. Now I can tolerate a series if it's short and I'm watching with friends to riff on it some. (Really want to get back into that >_>) You should try watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood it has a completely different story from the original anime, because it directly follows the manga. The first 13-14 episodes are basically the same, but the events and deaths are very different from the first anime. |
