Welcome to the elitist way of thinking, I honestly don't care if you watch subbed or dubbed, and I don't get why so many people care. The only anime I recommend in subbed is Angel Beats because TK speaks English in the original audio too, and it's just hilarious.

That video is perfection in describing most anime "fans". As for me if a series is over and has all it's episodes dubbed I will watch it that way, but if it's not up to date like Naruto I usually watch it subbed. Either way I could care less about which is better. Also I generally like dubs over subs, because I feel their is more variety in voices than in subs.

I really like subbed, mainly just because censoring bugs the heck out of me.
Though, I gotta say, Cowboy Bebop was the best dub that has ever graced this planet and I will watch it like that, even if I miss the she-dude's bits.

Great video btw.

And often I feel that Japanese voice is crap. I prefer dubs because, well screw subs. The weaboos are the same type of people who would watch a French/Spanish etc show in English but would watch a show in Japanese because...it's Japanese and not see the irony in it. That being said, the early Akira dub is terrible.

Like people who play Street Fighter/Tales of-- in Japanese because it makes them cool. Nothing better than a Japanese Cammy in all broken English glory fail at saying Spiral Arrow by saying SPiLaL BuRBLe. It's just stupid Japanese fandom.

RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - MexicanAnime - 08-20-2013

I use to be one of those people who only checked out dubs, but now I'm perfectly fine with subs. While I do think people like to complain much about recent dubs, it is true that there have been some terribly acted and scripted dubs in the past that is hard to get behind. Subs also sometimes have voices that generally flow nicer and are just great to listen to. If there's an English track, I try to give both a listen.

Granted, I will admit though that there are just some series that should not be dubbed. Not because I think it will "ruin the great sub", but just because there's some anime out there that rely heavy on Japanese wordplay and puns that would not exactly translate to the English language well. Ex - Bakemonogatari, Sayonara Zetsbou Sensei, etc

I'd like to think they do that as a means to not hear how cheesy the dialog can be when it's translated.

I kinda like fan subs, because if you slow down and actually read some of them you'll noticed how stupid a literal translation could be. Much like those golden lines as, "But Senpai, my feelings are not fake!"

I dislike it when dubs use words like "sensei" and "senpai", especially since you can easly translate though and those words being there doesn't make any sense when you're trying to do an English adaptation.

I'm looking at you, Fate/Stay Night anime.

Well those words make no sense to most of the English speaking audience, but to the few that know what they mean it adds to the show because honorifics show relationship status in Japan and are used heavily. But it still doesn't make much sense to put them in English dubs, I agree in that regard, but I actually like it when they do that.

RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - Hexadecimal - 08-20-2013

I was actually really disappointed with the dub of Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. Apparently the English dub crew was told to go ever more over the top with the swearing than the Japanese dub did and it's not funny at all. I'm also not impressed with the voice casting choices. Very rarely will I ever choose to watch a show subbed, but when it's that bad, I almost feel like I have no choice.

I guess the fellow behind Cowboy Bebop is making an anime called Space Dandy. I saw the trailer, and I'm not impressed at all, but I will for sure be giving it a shot since I loved Bebop.

I should check and see if the second season of Is this a Zombie? is dubbed yet. I've hated most recent anime since they're all about fan service instead of plot, but that one had enough story to get me interested. Plus it's not too Japanese where it has jokes I can't appreciate.

Did anyone here ever watch Black Rock Shooter? The OVA is amazing, and the anime is pretty good too, but it became much more violent and twisted.

If I may suggest a recent anime that isn't all about fan service if you're cool with subbed since it's not dubbed, I suggest watching Psycho-Pass it's an action thriller kind of anime but also has a plot that is supposed to keep you guessing as there are a lot of twists, but not so many that it becomes ridiculous, I'll put the plot synopsis in here so you can read that and decide since I'm not the greatest at explaining things without spoilers.

Plot synopsis: The series takes place in the near future, when it is possible to instantaneously measure and quantify a person's state of mind and personality. This information is recorded and processed, and the term "Psycho-Pass" refers to a standard used to measure an individual's being. The story centers around the "enforcement officer" Shinya Kougami, who is tasked with managing crime in such a world.

What's also appealing to me is that it only has 22 episodes so far, so hopefully that'll mean not so much filler either. I will certainly give this a shot at the end of next month since I have to take vacation time or I lose it.

It's only one season long right now, and they're making a second season since the show got enough support, also you would be right in thinking that there isn't filler.

Personally I prefer subbed but I do so with every single language. If it's originally Spanish, I'll watch it subbed with Spanish voice track. I guess my preference with subtitles comes from me being Finnish and only shows aimed for kids are dubbed (usually poorly) and everything else is subbed. I have become to appreciate the original voice acting. As for games, I use the default voices, there's no need to mess with those.

RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - JiraiyaSennin - 08-23-2013

I'm so excited for next week, because Naruto will be having a double episode.

RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - Peach_Cookie - 08-23-2013

Is it just me? Or does anime these days have wayy to much hentai going on or boob and butt shots? I've been steering away from anime lately because of that; but does anyone know if Sword Art Online is worth getting into?
