RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - Psychospacecow - 10-14-2013 I don't find it too odd honestly. People are petty creatures who's moral grounding is quite often founded in the social world. Sheep live in herds. They just follow each others actions. Now, that does not justify the stupidity of it all, but that's just from the views of another petty human. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - MexicanAnime - 10-14-2013 (10-14-2013, 11:55 AM)gamemaster1991 Wrote: Why would you be ashamed of some one liking Anime and Manga? It's just cartoons and comics (don't argue. it's true). Pretty much. I never understood why so many otaku are so upset by that distinction. Literally, it's just Japanese cartoons and comic books. Is there anything wrong with that? Hell no, so don't feel the need to make it like it's something more. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - retrolinkx - 10-14-2013 I always thought it was sort of like saying you liked Vidya. It's nerdy, has a negative "stay at home creep" stigma attached to it, and pretty much the stereotypical fat neckbeards like it. I'm not ashamed of watching it, but I'm not going to be weird, and start conversations by saying. "Couldn't Touma just hold Accelerator with his right hand, and then punch him with his left until he is knocked out?" I'm a huge horror movie fan so uh... I do have to admit that I liked Hostel. Never seen Human Centipede, though, nor do I ever plan to. In retrospect that was a weird thing to say. For some reason it was just the first thing that came to my mind when thinking of something to be ashamed of. I didn't even think of the whole "being an anime fan" at that point. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - MexicanAnime - 11-05-2013 Humanity has Declined is a pretty well written comedy that I quite enjoyed. This anime is a good example of satire and it uses the fairies quite effectively to show some of the flaws of human nature, which end up being hilarious through their reactions and interactions with the humans. It can be pretty cynical, but all and all it's a comedy that is meant to deliver jokes, which the show executes well. Match that with a great color pastel art style and you have a nice gem. The show does have some problems though and it could have been much better if it were not for one thing. The achronological really serves no purpose and actually ends up hurting the series a bit. There's nothing wrong with trying to show a sequence of events in a different order, but in HHD it just comes off as random, especially in the first few episodes. While the episodes were still funny, it feels like an in joke that you're not part of and all the the events seem random and aimless, despite the fairies and events being built up which is showcased in later episodes. It could have honestly done without. Oh, and bleeding bread . RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - Mass Distraction - 11-05-2013 That bread ended up reminding me of the suicidal muffin in asdfmovie7. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - TheTrueBoss997 - 11-18-2013 So lately I've been watching lots of anime. I use Netflix to watch anime and I plan to stick with Netflix for it. Problem is when I watch something great it ends too quickly and I'm stuck with finding another good anime. So far I've watched: -Eden of the East -Okami-san and her seven companions -Trigun -Fullmetal Alchemist I tried watching Black Butler but I did not find it interesting. As of now if any of you got some good anime suggestions on Netflix please tell me. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - Hexadecimal - 11-19-2013 I'm pretty sure these are Ah! My Goddess! characters. Anyway, this figure can only be shipped EMS due to how large it is, so folks are paying around $200 for them. I think it's gorgeous, but that price is crazy, so I passed and was hoping for the bargain bin. Folks are starting to get theirs now and it seems like there's a very big breakage issue that's happening in the same places for everyone whose gotten a damaged figure. Poor packing is an issue that really gets my nerves, especially when it's a large and expensive figure like this. People are saying there's numbers on the boxes so I think it's supposed to be limited as well. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - gamemaster1991 - 11-19-2013 ^The one on the bottom is Belldandy, though I don't know who the one on top is (maybe her mom). I still want it. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - Hexadecimal - 11-19-2013 I wish it were a more whimsical film, but it still looks good. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - Mass Distraction - 12-07-2013 I just started watching A Certain Scientific Railgun. I have previously mentioned (and ranted) about watching A Certain Magical Index. To be honest, the only reason I ever watched that show was because I wanted to watch Railgun and heard Index was made before it. I didn't want to miss any possible plot points so I watched that series first, only to now learn it really never even made a difference since Railgun takes place during Index, not after it. Currently my views are more on the negative side. I'm three episodes in and currently the only thing that has happened has been Kiroko being one of the most annoying anime characters I've seen. And honestly, she (and all the other pervy tones) in Index already irked me and now we have another character like her. Do we really need two of them? One is already more than enough. And seriously, what is it with the person who made this series and making female characters into lesbians? I am not really sure if this series is even taking itself seriously or not. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - retrolinkx - 12-16-2013 Damn Mass, I should've been paying attention to what you've been saying. Here, I'll give you some explanations to what I know already from your old post and this one. (05-07-2013, 11:42 AM)Mass Distraction Wrote: Okay, so. It kinda hurts me how excessively shonen A Certain Magical Index is at times and just how incredibly weird it is at other times. Responses a la bold. But I guess I'm a casual to anime, so I don't know what could be considered deeper than Shakespeare and what can be considered Bioware writing. Oh, and in actual news. I started watching something called Baccano. It seems pretty cool, no idea what is going on in it, but I like it. I really do. Not nearly as much as so many other characters I've seen, in this series and out, but that's why I said "mid-class". I understand the luck part, I should at least since my own luck is almost on par with his. At least I can relate :P There was a scene in one of the earlier episodes with the whole teacher using magic and something, something, then there was fire and something else happened, don't really remember. Anyway, in that scene Touma kept running for a good few minutes of the episode when Index was literally on the other side of the room. Maybe Touma's bad luck made him slow-mo. But that's just stupid. Honestly, if this was the case in everyday life, I would have been sent away too. Seriously, my luck is that bad and I'm well known for it. Then there's all the science and magic talk, most of which I understand none of and makes most of the "explanations" pointless, at least for me. Speaking of magic, the whole Chritsian church thing is just ridiculous and stupid. I'm no religious fanatic, far from it, but they could have just replaced it with any made-up cult and nothing would have changed. The only reason they used Christianity is to explain a brief appearance of an angel. Who is a little girl in a skimpy outfit, of course. But this is anime so don't worry, she's totally legal. I honestly couldn't catch the "joke" part. Either I just don't get it or they did a really poor job getting the point across or even making this point explicit enough for the average viewer to notice. All I see is a series deseprately trying to act all serious in its tones when it really isn't. Oh, and this thing right here: I can understand them trying to take a new approach on the whole cliche angel appearance but seriously, what the fuck is this? Bondage night? Oh well, I'm already going in the first season of Railgun so I'm just gonna roll with it.
