RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - Psychospacecow - 07-08-2015 BLEEP BLOOP "ABOUT TO FIND OUT YOUR BROTHER IS THE REAL TRAITOR" BLEEP BLOOP RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - Mass Distraction - 07-08-2015 (07-08-2015, 12:58 AM)retrolinkx Wrote: ^ I've learned not to look at achievements before I have actually beaten the game. Usually achievements are cleverly timed like in Portal 2's "The part where he kills you." RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - Psychospacecow - 07-08-2015 Eh, was just a joke on my part. I hope there's not one that bad. A lot of anime does this with their ridiculously long episode titles that are often two sentences long. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - retrolinkx - 07-08-2015 ^ Movie trailers do that as well. They try to spoil just enough so that you'll watch it because they've shown you just enough to give you unanswered questions and same with that, it's spoiling you so you can be like "HOLY HELL HOW DID THAT HAPPEN. I GOTTA SEE NEXT WEEK". It's stupid since you'll most definitely watch it next week, but I guess it's a sure fire way of making you watch it just so you know exactly how what happened, happened. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - Mass Distraction - 07-24-2015 Allright, now I've watched every single Digimon episode, and nearly every special and movie released. Now I only have Digital Monster X-Evolution (movie) and Adventure 3D (special) left and I've seen it all. Then it's just waiting for Adventure Tri, whenever that happens. I'll be watching X-Evolution first since it marks the end of an era and then Adventure 3D, in anticipation for the actual third season of it. Xros Wars was pretty awesome in itself. I wasn't very sure of it at first, especially after how good Data Squad was, and was only watching so I could say I've seen every Digimon episode but it really did grow on me and even if I just watched three seasons of it in a row it was sad to see it go. No movies or specials, though it's thus far the only series to have three seasons made. Still didn't catch up to Adventure's 100+ episodes, not to mention all the movies and the upcoming third season. Still, the second longest running series in the franchise. The final episodes where all the previous heroes came to help were pretty epic too so I guess that makes up for it. Ah man, this series just never gets old, not even when I watched three entire series of it during the past couple of months. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - retrolinkx - 08-10-2015 So Prison School (Kangoku Gakuen) updated once again and I was just reading it. Currently two of the girls are racing in a school race to see who is faster and due to retardedness several chapters before one of them is losing. The race itself has many different obstacles. Balance Beam, Sandbag, Cup and Egg etc. One of them falls to the ground as the other runs to the next section which is something I've never seen before but is quite interesting. You need to "borrow" something and bring it back to the table. So the runner in first get this. The girl then just stands there for several minutes as she honestly can't find someone she would consider a friend. She remembers a cat she had in sixth grade and then goes over several candidates in her head before she runs back to her dorm and picks up a Bamboo sword considering it to be a friend. Eventually another girl comes who is part of her team and asks her if she needs help with something. She grabs her and runs back to the borrowing table and says that she is "her friend". Eventually the "friend" rejects this saying they are not friends. They're actually... I just wanted to share those two sections. They actually made me smile over them. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - retrolinkx - 10-03-2015 Just finished watching Castle of Cagliostro in an attempt to watch all Ghibli films since I feel I'm missing out by only having watched Spirited Away and 20 minutes of Castle in the Sky. I really enjoyed it, but I never went in expecting to hate it. I did enoy the comedic elements it had, as well as the animation. It's very good for it's time. Damn near 40 years old and still looks good. The "anime" style is very interesting to see too. It's sort of like if a westerner tried to do an anime. It was still in it's early stages at this point (if we're not going to count manga's from the 30's) so it's really cool to see the differences, especially in the way Ghibli films draw characters and environments and such. Story was unique as well. It felt like a 20's twise on a fairy tale and the characters really worked well in the film too. Also I wondered throughout the whole film who voiced Lupin since I heard his voice before, turned out to be David Hayter. Now that's something. I was going in order of release and it was a good one to start with. I think I'm going to watch Castle in the Sky today as I believe it comes next but I might be wrong here. Really hoping I can get through them all, and rewatch Spirited Away. Interesting side note I want to bring up. Did anyone else find Spirited Away scary? I was talking to a couple of friends about it and they said that there are two kinds of people that react to Spirited Away. One kind will say they loved it, while the other would say they were scared shitless by it, and I never really understood this. First time I watched it I was around 6 or 7 and while I will admit I can see how some parts can be scary, I never found it to be scary. Meanwhile tons of other people did, so did anyone here find Spritied Away to be scary? EDIT: In the 2 or so hours between this post and now I watched Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. (The 2005 redub) and damn was it good. Currently listening to the Soundtrack as I type since it was a really good soundtrack. Can't really say much here other that what I said for Castle of Cagliostro. Amazing animation, voices, story damn near everything was great. I'm also seeing an odd pattern of princesses all being orange haired girls. I just hope the other films will be as good as these. Incidentally. Upon doing some research I notice that Castle of Cagliostro (and Nausicaa, but it's considered) is not a Ghibli film as the studio wasn't created at the time, but for some reason my brother had the films in a folder all under the name "Ghibli films" so I assumed it was just all Ghibli. Also, I keep forgetting that I have seen more than just Spritied Away. Kiki's delivery service and I vaguely remember Grave of the Fireflies. So I guess I can say I've seen 5 films already. Only 15 more to go if Wikipedia's list is correct. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - RepentantSky - 10-05-2015 To be fair, Naussica of the Valley of the Wind is considered a Studio Ghibli film, because it's the one Miyazaki did that prompted Isao Takahata to purpose making a studio with them as co-founders, which of course became Studio Ghibli. Even my blu-ray of the movie says "A Studio Ghibli Film" like the rest of them I own do. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - retrolinkx - 10-14-2015 Reading a manga that went from a struggling Manga artist in his day to day life to a zombie apocalypse in under 15 chapters, and for the past 3 chapters or so the main character has been seeing people eating other people alive, and his girlfriend even attempted to bite and kill him yet he's none the wiser to his situation. He just thinks it's a bad dream and doesn't understand any of it, but still believes that everything is normal. He even has a loaded shotgun in his bag, and he thought about dumping it because he's been running for so long and it's very heavy. Honestly, I don't even know at this point. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - Psychospacecow - 10-14-2015 A world where dirty jokes don't exist. Its so dirty. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - retrolinkx - 10-17-2015 ^ I am a Hero. I read 51 chapters in one night, it's a good read and it's interesting to see the character "grow" as he's starting to act more like a "hero" as the chapters go on. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - gamemaster1991 - 10-17-2015 I will admit that I don't keep up with Anime/Manga as much as I use to, and I only watch TV for news and The Walking Dead. So I'm a little bit beyind the times in finding out that one of my favorite WTF manga, Parasyte, has it's own anime AND has an English dub AND is airing on a channel I have. Apparently I've only missed the first 2 episodes so it shouldn't be too hard to catch up before the third episode airs tonight. |
