RE: Fighting Games - ZpaceJ0ck0 - 11-24-2018 World Heroes' Jeanne D'Arc is the latest addition to the SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy roster. EDIT: so looks like the spelling of her name was changed from Janne to Jeanne. A rather odd choice if you ask me, that would be like renaming J. Karn as G. Khan. Anyway, I am just going to assume they changed the name because is more accurate, as 'Janne' comes from Dutch rather than French. Also, those pictures featuring the rest of the World Heroes cast look pretty cool. EDIT 2: A new World Heroes manga (wait, what?) and a OST release for the series are coming very soon What's next? Is SNK going to tell us that a new World Heroes game is going to be confirmed? EDIT 3: friendly reminder that Jeanne's whip-sword predates 'Ivy' Isabella Valentine's by at least 5 years. Jeanne's whip-sword debuted in Wolrd Heroes 2 as part of one of her special moves in the year 1993, with the character of Jeanne herself debuting in the first WH game a year prior. Ivy, on the other hand, debuted in Soul Calibur 1 for the Dreamcast/Arcade back in 1998. Unfortunately for SNK (and giving credit where credit is due), Ivy's moveset took the concept of the whip-sword fighting style much farther than Jeanne ever could. RE: Fighting Games - ZpaceJ0ck0 - 12-17-2018 Evil Ryu Except Not Really is the first character of SFV season 4. And yes, his name literally means "shadow" in Japanese. As for Kage's character story, I liked three things in particular. 1. It explained the scene in Sagat's character story where he apparently "succumbs" to the SNH. He didn't succumb to it in the sense that the energy was inside of his body, but rather that he was fighting Kage. In other words, Kage was messing with Sagat’s mind in Sagat’s story. 2. The fact that both Sagat and Akuma knew Kage wasn't a huge threat. 3. How Ryu defeated Kage by pretty much saying "you do you, man". EDIT: watching Kage's character story again, it seems that it takes place between A Shadow Falls. The whole story is basically Ryu's training session before the final battle. This can be seen with Akuma’s comment to the Kage, which shows that he is still unsure of the path Ryu chose. Yet when Akuma meets Ryu at last AFTER ASF, Ryu’s path is chosen. So this definitely takes place before Ryu even fights Necalli a second time. EDIT 2: http://www.capcom.co.jp/sfv/sp/chara_kage.html?referrer=http%3A%2F%2Fdisq.us%2Furl%3Furl%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.capcom.co.jp%252Fsfv%252Fchara_kage.html%253A_y__cG9sDmZblD7FqvWqjYYtdyM%26cuid%3D1022313 Capcom’s Japanese website writes the character’s name in English as “Kage,” but in Japanese as 影ナル者 (kage-naru mono) – approximately translating to “that which becomes (or became) [a] shadow.” His catch-copy is 血戦の咆哮 (kessen no houkou) – “the roar of bloody battle.” The website gives his background as “An incarnation of the Satsui no Hadou which has diverged from Ryu. Boasts strength like that of a kishin 鬼神 [fierce deity]. Wanders in search of battles to the death with powerful opponents.” The more I look into it, the more it seems that Kage is a spiritual/metaphysical being rather than a physical one in the proper sense of the word. Would have preferred his design to be more "ghost-like" in order to represent that. EDIT 3: so I found out this is a thing. Some of these are a bit of a stretch but overall I can see it. This is my new headcanon. EDIT 4: Midgardsorm, the Japanese expert from the SRK forums, recently posted this: Midgardsorm Wrote:影ナル者 kage naru mono means “A person who is a shadow”, literally. That naru is not the Modern Japanese 成る naru “to become”; rather, Capcom used the Classical Japanese verb 也 nari “to be” in its adjectival form, as they often do with Gouki’s dialogue. Gouki and Kage don’t speak Modern Japanese at all: if Capcom wanted to convey the nuance, their English wording should have been more like Marvel’s Thor… It should be noted that when Midgardsorm is talking about "Marvel's Thor" s/he is talking about his original incarnation from the comics, rather than his counterpart from the MCU who speaks modern English. EDIT 5: so Midgardsorm recently posted this. Midgardsorm Wrote:I stand corrected: Kage doesn’t speak Classical Japanese as does Gouki. I admit I only saw a screenshot of Kage’s story mode with the occasional obsolete word and jumped to conclusions, but now that I’ve watched the full video I can and must rectify my mistake: Kage speaks a modern and very rude Japanese, with a few archaic words here and there. Gouki remains the only one who speaks in Classical Japanese. It’s interesting that this “shadow” speaks the same language as Ryu, but obviously contaminated by its own conceit. RE: Fighting Games - ZpaceJ0ck0 - 12-21-2018 There are no plans for a Season Pass for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition in 2019 RE: Fighting Games - ZpaceJ0ck0 - 12-23-2018 2018 was another great year for the fighting game genre. Season 3 of Street Fighter V. New Samurai Shodown game and KOF XV confirmed. New content for TEKKEN 7. Mortal Kombat 11 confirmed. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy. Dragon Ball FighterZ being released. Among other things I probably cannot remember at the moment. If I forgot something feel free to bring it up. Looking foward to see what's in store in 2019!
