RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - retrolinkx - 06-26-2017 ^ Dude same, unforuntely unless you're the same age the girls are in Nichijou, you won't find it funny. However the superior "Nichibro" is something you should look into. So, I've started watching something called "Heavy Object" and oh man, it suffers from some awful anime tropes that make it awful to watch, but I've been trucking through it...well two episodes and after finishing the second episode I've noticed something I really hate. The gist of the anime is that there are these huge metal gears that have basically stopped all warfare from happening. War is now just a battle between two metal gears and whoever wins, the other side surrenders and basically no lifes are lost. In the 2nd episode, the main characters are attacked and they send out the Metal Gear to stop them, the good metal gear loses, but the enemy metal gear keeps attacking, and destroys the base. The main characters find an SOS call, and decide to go find the pilot of the destroyed metal gear. Their CO tears them a new one, and says that they're stupid and it's obviously a distraction for the metal gear to not kill everyone in the base. 1 life for hundreds. The MC disagrees and instead goes off to save the pilot. He gives a very serious speech about the horrors of war, and how they can't escape and things like that. Hell, he even goes on to say that the pilot can't distract them by herself, and he'll go and help out the distraction, he can't leave it up to one person. He then heads off the save the pilot. Then fucking eye catcher comes in with it's short 3 second joyful tune, and oh man what a mood killer. There it is, the thing that breaks up commercial breaks in Japan. Thanks for ruining the moment you retards. Oh well, it does look like it has some potential to be a good series, so I'll continue watching. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - RepentantSky - 06-27-2017 Does anyone have some good suggestions for anime movies that maybe aren't as well known? I've already seen Akira, Paprika, all of Studio Ghibli's films, all of Hosoda's films, Dallos, Metropolis, The Place Promised in our Early Days, Colorful, Voices of a Distant Star, The Garden of Words, the FMA films, the Bleach films, the Naruto films, I'm just looking for something new so if you've got any suggestions I'd really appreciate it. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - Kakariko Kid - 06-27-2017 Your Name. Have you seen it? I haven't watched much anime, and I haven't seen it, but it has high scores from Rotten Tomatoes, Google users and IMDb. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - RepentantSky - 06-27-2017 Yeah I've seen it. Anyone who likes anime who claims they haven't is probably lying since people haven't been quiet about it generally since it released. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - retrolinkx - 06-27-2017 The Girl who leapt through time, Wolf Children, and Paprika would be some you haven't mentioned. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - ZpaceJ0ck0 - 06-27-2017 Repenant mentioned paprika, though. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - retrolinkx - 06-27-2017 Oh, I didn't notice. I assumed he said Akira before Ghibli, and didn't re-read. I also said all of Hosoda's films, meaning The Girl who Leapt Through Time and Wolf Children fall into that. Perhaps I should have been more clear. Sorry about that. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - RepentantSky - 07-04-2017 Has anyone watched any of the first episodes of the new anime that have started the last few days? Of what I've seen, the only ones that are really interesting me are the new Fate series, Yoaki Apartment and Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu. The rest are kind of, hard to accept, like two more anime where someone from the modern world ends up in a fantasy one or a high school academy where the kids there gamble as good as pros. or the one where the clean freak character plays futbol. I don't know if there's any anime still to come for this season, but I hope so because otherwise this summer's shows are ultimately going lose my interest save for a few. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - ZpaceJ0ck0 - 07-22-2017 So, how did you guys got into One Punch Man? I got into the series because I saw a video by Chilean Youtuber El Reviewer Random (The Random Reviewer) talking about the subject. I cheked that video again and it turns out it was uploaded on August 2014, 6 months before the anime was even announced. I'm still not sure if I should read the original webcomic. I just... grew accustomed to the redraw version of Yusuke Murata. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - Psychospacecow - 07-22-2017 I saw an article about it about a month after it came out. Also, DB Super has now reached 100 episodes. It is absolutely fantastic. Like a lot of anime, I knew about it months before it got an anime but never cared for it until something changed and I wanted to watch it. (Like all my friend discussing Jojo made me want to read it and Hero Academia is still in my bookmarks to read since 2014 for example) Although with One Punch Man, I still haven't given it the time of day just because it seems kind of boring to me. RE: General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread - ZpaceJ0ck0 - 07-23-2017 ^ You should definetely give OPM a try. The characters are likeable, Yususke Murata's art is beyond amazing and the action scenes while quite predictable regarding "who would win" are still really well done. The series also does a great job at fullfilling it's purpose, which is to be parody of super heroe comicbooks and action-packed shonen*, Saitama himself being a parody of overpowered characters. *Contrary to popular (western) belief, Shonen is not a genre, but rather, a demographic classification. Think of "Shonen" as the manga equivalent of the American PG-13, or the ESRB T rating, or PEGI 13. Ironically, One Punch-Man itself is Seinen (rated M for Mature/PEGI 18).
