Puzzles - Mass Distraction - 02-28-2014

Puzzle talk. Games have them, you know. Or used to, anyway. I'll start.

The piano puzzle in the original Silent Hill has got to be the hardest puzzle I've ever done in any game ever and is the sole reason I do not want to go through the game again. Ever. I had pen and paper and all, not many games make you go that far. The triumph of finally figuring it out was fantastic though.

People tend to tell me that the water sample puzzle in RE3 is the worst ever but I'd like to see them try that piano puzzle. Took me and my ex an hour or something to figure it out. Water sample only took about 10 minutes and that was only because of the lack of explanation on what I was even supposed to be doing.

Puzzle agent is one of my favorite puzzle themed games(since its all about puzzling the pieces together to get to the next part of the game). And its a good brain thinker to play.

Puzzles in video games can be fun as long as they are perfectly balanced for gamers.

I'm not that great of a thinker so games that incorporate puzzles in order for you to progress forward in game isn't always my favorite thing. Just watching a LP of Amnesia the Dark Descent from Lanipator of TeamFourStar made me realize I'm not all that into puzzles. Or things that are in a way puzzles without actually being intended as one. With Silent Hill as an example again, not that piano one but just navigation alone can be a puzzle. Especially in Silent Hill 2 when you are in that stupid Hotel/Apartment building. Trying to figure out where you are on that map and what door to go through (granted mostly when you are first playing it, second+ playthroughs and so forth you can generally remember where to go after that).

It became a huge challenge cause you end up going in circles just trying to figure out what path to take.

Skyrim is pretty good at making hard puzzles. They start to repeat after a while but the first time you do them, They can be hard

The Aztec Temple in Goldeneye has the only puzzle in the game. I never figured it out. I resorted to walk through sources.
