We do have the Skype group chat whcih could be used for communication even apart from the podcast.

Oh yeah, Arjahn, it seems that you are already in the group.

Arjahn, quick question about the video I uploaded...
Since the thumbnail apparently makes you want to hang yourself, do you have any suggestions on how to make a better thumbnail? Or anybody, better thumbnail ideas?

RE: The VGFacts Community Youtube Channel - Psychospacecow - 04-01-2014

Every other Thursday or Friday for podcast maybe?

Its kind of bright with that expression, kind of lends itself to some assumptions.

Just uploaded my April Fool's video to my own channel, should I upload it to the group channel too?

Ok, image for context: [Image: mqdefault.jpg]

Can we PLEASE try to stray away from the whole obnoxious trend of making stupid/WHACKY! faces and superimposing them on either colors or a game background for thumbnails like so many Youtubers do? Sorry for being crass, it just really irritates me. You guys can do it if you want, that's just my two cents.

NOW that's the face of an LP Youtube Superstar™. The next step is to nab an artist to draw cartoon versions of all of your faces and use those for every thumbnail from then on; because nothing says, "I learned all my view grabbing tactics from Youtube Superstars" like a toony avatar.

You don't need to add it if you don't want to. It would be nice to have some stuff to put on one chennel or the other.

Does that mean we can't have cartoon pictures to put as the thumbnail since there are so many others that do that too?

RE: The VGFacts Community Youtube Channel - TheTrueBoss997 - 04-01-2014

I should be able to upload my video this weekend (hopefully) and I decided to look at some of the cultural figures in Persona 4. I hope it turns out well.

That's question that you'll have to answer yourself. Honestly, if I were to use custom thumbnails I'd only use a cropped shot of the boxart, indicate it's an LP/speedrun/whatever, and the part number; kinda like how LPer Mr.DJB does his thumbnails:

In CosmykTheDolfyn's case, his thumbnail actually tells me nothing of what his video is about. (Not even the hard to read white text saying 'speedrun') All I got out from seeing it is that you want to draw attention to yourself rather to your mad gaming skills, and that you can't figure out that bright colors do not make white text any easier to read.

RE: The VGFacts Community Youtube Channel - BumblebeeCody - 04-01-2014

On the topic of thumbnails...eh. The way YouTube is going, you may as well leave it as is. Especially considering this is a community channel to which we should let people upload their videos how they want, regardless of YouTube cliches.

I took a dig at LP thumbnails last year. HYPE!

RE: The VGFacts Community Youtube Channel - CosmykTheDolfyn - 04-02-2014

So, about the thumbnail, let me say a little about it and why I went that route. I have done custom thumbnails of box art before. However, as a joke video, I don't want to give away the game's identity until someone actually clicks on the video, therefore vague picture and title. If I was doing a Let's Play, I would do a game screenshot or box art. No questions.
So, I went the cliche route. Since nobody has actually offered any real suggestions that would not give away the game's identity, I'll just let it stay that way. But in all seriousness, if somebody has a complaint about a video, please bring it up civilly with the person or on the board here. Not by making a crass comment on the video itself and expecting that to do anything.

RE: The VGFacts Community Youtube Channel - SERIOUSLY THOUGH - 04-02-2014

In my opinion, given that the channel is an aggregate of members, I think that every uploader should be able to choose the thumbnail that s/he wants within reason (i.e. no excess booty).

If everyone had the same style of thumbnail, there would be no personality to the page.
I personally thought "aha it's Cosmyk pulling a face, I wonder what he's up to," and clicked on his video.

In other news, it may be good to put the name of the uploader in square brackets so that we know whose video it is

eg - "[Combat Lobster] Barbie's Horse Adventures III"

Or just everyone uploading make their their own section for the ease of browsing.

That's also a very good idea.
In that case, make sure that your playlist is horizontal so that it doesn't take too much place.

RE: The VGFacts Community Youtube Channel - Psychospacecow - 04-19-2014

Hey Plebs, we've got to get some footage up on the tube. Its been 2 weeks. Anyone up for some yugioh? Its something I can do easily and if the audio goofs, it doesn't matter.
