Pac-Man Trivia - Superjustinbros - 03-19-2013 Some Pac-Man trivia, mostly with graphics. *Near the top of the maze, the large rectangular walls are not solid, but rather hollow, as proven by altering the palette of the maze walls. By default, they appear to be solid as both the background and maze interior colors are identical, and because of this, wall tiles without boundaries were never inserted into the game. Certain bootleg versions of Pac-Man, such as JoyMan and the Galaxian hardware version show this in full detail. *In the second of the three intermissions, when Blinky's coat is ripped off, you can see Blinky's eyes temporally change from their standard blue to black. This is to allow the game to draw Blinky's foot with a proper skin color, as each sprite could only have four colors, including a transparent (black) color. RE: Pac-Man Trivia - ORWELL6 - 03-21-2013 Did You Know? That in the game's file's, a sixth ghost is revealed. His programming specifically made him use the side entrance waaaay to much. His name would have been Shitty Titty Walrus. ;) (SARCASM TOTALLY NOT REAL) RE: Pac-Man Trivia - Superjustinbros - 04-06-2013 (03-21-2013, 11:19 PM)ORWELL6 Wrote: Did You Know? Dahaa, Reminds me of Champ Pac-Em (where the fifth and sixth ghosts enter the maze via the side tunnels) Anyways, prototype blueprints that were leaked sometime last year: An entirely different maze from the final, which also has the HUD being displayed inside the boundaries of the game itself (and if the maze's size were compared to the original, they'd be of different heights). This maze also doesn't feature warp tunnels but instead dead ends. From left to right: Part of designs for another prototype maze (again lacking warps but has dead ends, and sprite sketches including unused sprites: *A different interpretation of the side of Blinky's "cloth" getting ripped off at the second intermission. Here, it looks much different than in the final version, since the cloth is restricted inside the pixel space of the standard sprite. And I don't know if that's blood where the cloth got ripped. Or is what got ripped off skin? *An old second frame of animation that was eventually given a much-needed upgrade in the game's final release. *An alternative version of the first sprite, but facing upwards, no "blood", and a different rip pattern. *Now here comes the most interesting of the unused sprites. It seems that during production there were plans on (as shown on the bottom right of the above image) having walls that the Ghosts could squeeze through but Pac-Man couldn't, effectively creating Ghost-Only passages. I recreated the above sprites as they'd appear had they made it the way they were. |
