Studio Ghibli closes its doors - CLXcool - 08-03-2014

I was going to post this in the anime thread, but it felt more needed for its own thread. You are reading this correctly. The studio that gave us Spirted Away, Princess Monokoe, Castle in the sky, and Ponyo. Has announced that they are closing doors on the studio completely. I will admit. They had some great movies going on. But I had a feeling that they were going to do something like this since they didn't want to become a 'declined'(in terms of quality) animation studio that is happening most often nowadays.

If Spumco closed the doors, then Ghibli has shut the doors.

Can't say I'm very surprised. Its still a shame though.

I can say that it's a little bit saddening that a childhood studio is gone, but I would like to see a good studio go before it over stays it's welcome.

RE: Studio Ghibli closes its doors - SERIOUSLY THOUGH - 08-03-2014

This is a shame, but it's not uncommon for media in Japan to close its doors before overstaying its welcome.

Takeshi's Castle is a very good example.

I just hope the people who worked with Ghibli go and work somewhere else where they can be respected and appreciated for what they do.

It would be horrible if they became concept artists for a random manga or something.

I should really watch all their films, I've only ever seen Spirited Away.

Silly question, where did the rights to publish content go? I might want to make some Totoro shirts as a way to honor Ghibli.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. But Disney owns the publishing rights to market the Ghibi animated films. If thats not the case. I'm certain that Hayo has thought that out.

I thought that was sudden, and this makes a lot more sense. Miyazaki himself said on several different occasions during interviews that he wanted someone to replace him the event of his retirement, not that the company instantly shut down.

I do hope we get some good news, because after a film like "Up on Poppy Hill" which I really enjoyed, it would be sad to see Miyazaki's son not try again for the company to bring more fans to his side and then let him run with it for awhile.

On the bright side. The studio is dodging the bullet from closure. Lets just hope once Miyazaki leaves the company, it runs off on a smooth course.

Well, that's a serious bummer.

I've figured this was coming for a while now but... Now it's here. :(
