In case you were wondering what this ice bucket challenge thing was about - Psychospacecow - 08-22-2014 http://www.alsa.org/about-als/what-is-als.html ALS is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. My family has MS in its veins. My mom suffers from MS, and I know exactly how these people feel. Its not a long road. Its a slippery descent into an inevitable handicapping. This is why people have been spreading the word with this ice bucket challenge. RE: In case you were wondering what this ice bucket challenge thing was about - retrolinkx - 08-22-2014 Oh, that's actually a decent cause. I just thought it was another fad, but wow that's really smart and thoughtful. Kudos to them. RE: In case you were wondering what this ice bucket challenge thing was about - Dazz - 08-23-2014 The trend has raised in excess of $50,000,000 so far. It's honestly an incredible thing. RE: In case you were wondering what this ice bucket challenge thing was about - Psychospacecow - 08-23-2014 I agree wholeheartedly. RE: In case you were wondering what this ice bucket challenge thing was about - RepentantSky - 08-24-2014 I suppose this is the difference between a bunch of adults and a mix of children and adults on a forum. Another forum I go to has people completely split on this challenge. Some are crying about how this challenge is just the new thing for celebrities to get attention, others complain about other illnesses not getting the same attention, and of course several people are behind this trend 100 percent, as in my opinion, they should be. While it's okay to have a different opinion, belittling the thing that has done so much good is not the way to go about it. I'm glad that's not happening here. This started out as a simple thing. It ment one thing when it started. But since everyone wanted everyone to be the same, we started to muddy the waters and started making it into more of a joke than anything. I can't even name half of the "awareness ribbons" because everyone keeps making new ones http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_awareness_ribbons The Ice Water Challenge is fine for one cause. We don't need to over complicate it. As for the celebrities to get attention, who are you going to pay atation to more: me or Hugh Jackman. My bets on the more famous person. They know that they can spread the word because people pay more atation to the famous people than any one else. Now people like Miley Cyrus and Justien Beber, THEY are doing it to be more famous. Also, this fourm is really the best becuse we can say almost anything and stay calm. RE: In case you were wondering what this ice bucket challenge thing was about - RepentantSky - 08-24-2014 Like that last line because of how true it rings. People just relax here instead of going crazy like so many do. RE: In case you were wondering what this ice bucket challenge thing was about - BumblebeeCody - 08-26-2014 Have no problem with it at all considering the money it raised but I do feel the message has been lost and has become more about the trend. I honestly thought this was a fad. Again, nothing against it, but I'd rather just donate money (which I will on Friday).
