Movie Industry Gamechanger - Berry - 10-05-2014

http://variety.com/2014/film/news/crouching-tiger-2-fallout-regal-cinemark-wont-play-imax-release-1201317183/

Apparently IMAX, Netflix, and Wienstien is releasing the Crouching Tiger,Hidden Dragon 2 in Theaters AND on Netflix...AT THE SAME TIME.

The news obviously cause top major theater chains (AMC, Cinemark, Carmike, and Regal and possibly others) to not screen the film in their theaters.

The ballsy move could be a major step in the movie industry and if the film success, Heads could be rolling.

What are your thoughts?

I haven't been in a movie theater in years. I hate the entire experience anyways. The only theater that was within an hour of where I grew up was rat infested, extremely dirty, etc. Seriously, there were just rats everywhere, you had to avoid stepping on them. I had some friends that got them in their popcorn. As a result, I just always thought theaters were nasty places and it wasn't worth going. As a result, I can count the times I've been in a movie on 1 hand.
So, in short, I don't really care about what this means for theaters. Good if they die, overpriced anyways.

I loooooooove movie theaters. I hope they never go away. I just wish that there was one near where I live...

And trust me, I've been to all kinds of places. From actual gigantic cinemas to amateur cinemas to an old guy screening movies at the local community center when I was just a kid. Oh, memories... The prices have gone waaaaay up over the years but I'm still willing to pay for the experience.

I actually love going to the movie theaters, but only when it's a movie I absolutely want to see, because movie theaters are way too expensive to go to all the time.

As for the topic, I think it's great that theaters are being challenged by Netflix, because they haven't had competition like this ever. So if it gets enough support and they consistently do this, movie theaters might start to drop ticket prices to fight back, which is always good for us people.

Eh. I'm not bothered. I still go the cinema occasionally but if I can watch the film at home with friends then I'll all for that. For those times I go all on cinema viewing, then it's to the IMAX.

On a related note, I don't even use Netflix. I'm old fashioned and buy my movies on either DVD or Bluray. Occasionally on VHS, too.
