Free games that are worth your time - CosmykTheDolfyn - 10-06-2014 So, in this thread, we talk about great free games that you can play. Find a good one, put it in this thread. I can't believe I haven't found a thread for this already. However, I am going to lay down some law here: No emulation or rom talk. Yes, technically it's free... and illegal. This is not the site for that sort of thing. Now, with that disclaimer out of the way, I'll give you three of of my favorite free games with their download links. Elsword: A 2.5D Side-Scrolling Action MMORPG. Also, there are quite a few characters and unique classes to customize. A word of advice, don't start as Chung. They buffed everyone except him. But, you can create your own moveset to find your own juggling combos, ect. There is a story, but that doesn't really matter. Leveling feels solid, but a bit too grindy at times. It's well worth it though. Note, there is pay to play, but it only increases how fast you level, and only for a very short time. So in short, if you do PvP, you won't be destroyed by someone who paid to get buffs; you'll play a character the same level as you. So, in short, the paying user get almost the exact same experience as the one playing for free, and you can enjoy all features (except some stupid costumes) without paying a penny. http://en.elswordonline.com/ Street Fighter x Mega Man: A extremely difficult classic Mega Man game. And by that I mean it plays just like the classic Mega Man games. And you don't fight robot masters, the bosses are all Street Fighter characters. It's super fun and super nostalgic. It was a fan creation that Capcom branded as Mega Man's 25th anniversary present. While that's not a good move by Capcom, the game is still free and still a blast to play. Make sure to get the v2 version as it now has a password system and fixes some bugs. http://www.capcom-unity.com/mega_man Nitronic Rush: A survival racing game. No, that's what the game is branded as. It's very fast paced and obstacles are constantly thrown at you. Hence it being called survival racing. The controls are tight and respond well, it's difficult by good design and not cheap gimmicks and it's just flat out fun to play. Prepare yourself for a real challenge. Note that the game plays best with an Xbox 360 controller (and no other controller), but keyboard works all right too. http://nitronic-rush.com/ RE: Free games that are worth your time - snomangaming - 10-07-2014 Expendabros is free and great if you aren't sure if you want to buy Broforce or not. It's essentially the same game with the story tied in with Expendables 3, which fits perfectly with the theme and feel of the game. It's on Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/312990/ In that same vein, Spelunky Classic is still free if you aren't sure about buying the HD remake yet. Not as fun IMO as the remake, but still worth looking at since its free! http://www.spelunkyworld.com/original.html RE: Free games that are worth your time - JiraiyaSennin - 10-07-2014 It's not quite to the calibre of those other games, but it's really fun, basic, and most importantly free. It's called Tag Pro. It's a very basic, but very addictive capture the flag type game. It's not a single player game though, it's an online multiplayer game. Here: http://tagpro.koalabeast.com/ RE: Free games that are worth your time - Mass Distraction - 10-07-2014 How convenient! I'm writing this thing on Screwattack with 30 free horror games that are worth checking out every October. Here's the list for last year: http://www.screwattack.com/news/month-free-horror-ii-final-day-happy-halloween There'll be a new one every day until the end of this month at my SA blog: http://www.screwattack.com/user/mass-distraction/blog Shameless self promotion? Maybe, but it fits the bill way too nicely. RE: Free games that are worth your time - CosmykTheDolfyn - 10-07-2014 Here's another I can't believe I forgot about: Armagetron Advanced: Remember the Tron films? And the crazy lightcycle battles? Well, this is a free game entirely based on that and it's super addicting. However, there is a massive difference between this and the movie: rubber. It's a mechanic that was added to deal with lag at first (yes, it's an online game) but it exploded into multiple game types. I've been playing the game since 2008 and still find it great. With rubber, you can touch an enemies' wall and have a time limit before you explode. So, you have no rubber servers where touching a wall=instant death, low rubber where you have just a little leeway and high rubber servers where you can touch a wall for 10 seconds or so before blowing up. As a result, high rubber servers involve building intricate mazes with your own tail to trap your oppenent in and they slowly hit more and more walls. Then, there are Fortress modes where there a two teams and each has to protect a base at low rubber, Sumo mode where you kill your opponents by forcing them out of a circle decreasing in size, racing modes, capture the flag, paintball and so much stuff! It's got an awesome community also. Check it out: http://armagetronad.org/ Man, I'm getting really nostalgic about this thing now. It's been waaaaay too long since I really played it... Back in the day, I even wrote a web comic about the community... The Grow series. Each game tasks you to use your mind to figure out the corect way to get though the puzzle. My three favorites that I keep coming back to are..... Grow Rpg. Your knight is tasked to kill the evil demon. Can you help him find the best armor and wepons to best this evil? Grow Cube. Help the little people explore the cube and make it wonderful. Dwarf Complete. You are a wondering Dwarf adventure trying to find the treasure in side the cave.... and maybe even more. (Yes I know this is not part of the grow series but it was made by the same person). RE: Free games that are worth your time - JiraiyaSennin - 10-09-2014 I actually stayed up one night playing all of those Grow games, they are insanely fun and addicting. They also kind of remind me of another game series called Hapland. Hapland 1 Hapland 2 Hapland 3 |
