Real life genus of Pterosaur named after Pokemon - Kitsune Hawk - 03-31-2015 Now this was something fascinating I found during my research session for the episode of Character Development on Fossilized Pokemon. A whole genus of pterosaurs, previously regarded as specimens of Pterodactylus Kochi, was found to be a different group of extinct animals, named Aerodactlyus in honor of the Pokemon Aerodactyl, as both the Pokemon and the only known species of Aerodactylus (Aerodactylus Scolopaciceps) seem to bear similarities to multiple pterosaurs. It was this physical confusion that made Aerodacylus Scolopaciceps erroneously labeled as many other species of the genus Pterodactylus.
