Super Mario World - Bowser = Mode 7 - Takahashi2212 - 04-04-2015

Bowser in the final fight isn't actually a standard sprite, but actually a Mode 7 layer, meaning he is a part of the background, much like the Golem fight in Super Castlevania 4. You can see this in his death animation, where his sprite just shrinks, and his animations for swooping forward, where it just stretches to get larger.This is also why the background of the fight is black, and why he goes behind the HUD when flies next to it, again much like the Golem boss in Castlevania 4.
