"In the beginning of 2012, Resident Evil: Revelations came out for the Nintendo 3DS and since I haven't really brought it and played it for myself, I thought the game was very decent in terms of story, characters, and gameplay.
About a month later, fans were treated to Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, which by many consider to be one of the worst games of 2012. I decided to get the game after almost a year since release for a measly $15 at Gamestop.
And, people were right. But first, I'm gonna start with the plot. Also, spoilers ahead.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City focuses on the group of soldiers working for Umbrella Corp. called the U.S.S Delta Team, but they're officially known as "Wolfpack". The team's members are Lupo; the team leader, Vector; their recon and apparently, HUNK is his mentor, Bertha; the medic, Beltway; the demolitions expert, Four Eyes; the Field Scientist, and their marksman; Spectre.
The first mission of the game have them go after Willaim Birkin and secure the G virus. However, they failed to get the samples thanks to Willaim transformed by the G virus that he inject. Because of this, the G virus spreaded out into Raccoon City and just like Resident Evil 2 & 3, all hell breaks lose. Umbrella, disappointing at Wolfpack's actions towards the mission, tells Wolfpack to go to Raccoon City, destroy all of their evidence and kill anyone who is alive.
That's basically the plot instead. I won't spoil too much, but if you want to see the entire plot yourself, look it up on Youtube or something like that.
Now to the gameplay itself. To be honest, I don't like the gameplay in this game. Sure, Capcom tried something new, but to me, it felt more like a generic fps. You shoot at monsters, B.O.W's, enemy soldiers and even heroes from the 2nd and the 3rd game.
Like most generic first person shooters, online multiplayer was added as well. It has 4 modes, with a 5 mode being exclusive as DLC. The following is;
Team Attack - You kill monsters and enemy soldiers to gain XP. First team to get to 4000 wins.
Biohazard - Capture G virus samples and bring them back to your base. First team to get the most G virus samples win.
Heroes - In which players play as one of their favorite heroes from RE 2 and RE 3. However, if you die, that hero is dead. Defeat all of the heroes of the opposite side to win.
Survivor - You survive until a helicopter arrives. There are only 4 spots so if you don't make it, game over for you.
Nemesis - You have to find a data extraction point to extract data. First person to extract all of the data wins. The fun part is that a Nemesis B.O.W is hidden somewhere on the map. If you can get it and work it, you can wreck havoc on the other team.
While do most of these modes are cool, they're basically ripped off from other fps games.
Let's talk about the bad problems about the game. When I mean "bad problems", I meant tons of them. First of all, they are load of glitches in this game. Sometimes, you might shoot someone but it didn't register or sometimes, you respawn really glitchy and you end up dying 30 seconds later.
Another issue is that the AI, especially your teammates.They are a bunch of dumbf*cks. They waste first aid sprays like no tomorrow, they die more times than you do, and they even walk in other directions. Not only that, the enemy AI is also a bitch. You'll just walk around, mindlessly shooting zombies when a Hunter comes up and knocks your down, then it proceeds to whack you until you get up. It's so stupid.
The biggest issue I have with the game is the story. The entire story is poorly executed. Not only that, most of the characters, especially the main heroes, have little to no personality. They're just dull and boring.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is definitely one of the worst games of 2012. The characters are dull and boring, the entire story is sh*t, and the multiplayer is about generic as it gets. It doesn't help the fact that the AI can be a bitch to work with and the glitches make the game unplayable. This game is a total mess and it's sh*t. For a game I brought for $15, it definitely proves it.
Don't get this game unless you wanna add it to your collection. It's not worth your time or investment to play it."
