Ketsueki-gata, or ABO blood types, are supposedly predictive of personality traits, temperament and compatability with others, made popular in the 1970s by author Masahiro Nomi. The Japanese think blood type plays a large role in defining a person's general personality. It's not all that different from how we (in the general sense) think that the day you were born plays a large role in defining a person's general personality. Think of it as the equivalent of a horoscope, but with blood types instead of birthdays. Either way, it's superstitious nonsense, though. Heck, if you want an specific example, let me tell you that this type of info is also mentioned in anime/manga such as JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and HunterxHunter. There, just leaving my 5 cents.
