Popo is called Pepe in German - DidYouKnowGaming - 04-04-2017 Popo of Ice Climbers and Smash Bros fame is named Pepe in Germany. This seems to be because Popo means buttocks (or simply 'butt') in German. Germany is known for massively censoring video games, so this should come as no surprise. The character is definitely named Pepe in Germany, which can be seen in many publications. One example is the German hub for Wikipedia https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_Climber Quote: Insgesamt gibt es 32 Level (bzw. Berge), in denen der Spieler als einer der zwei Inuit, Pepe (ポポ Popo) oder Nana (ナナ), die eisbedeckte Bergspitze erklimmen und das Gemüse vom Kondor zurückholen muss Here's a screenshot I took of the European version of Melee running the German language setting: I also checked to see if Popo had his name changed in any of the other EU languages, but they were all Popo. Documentation about the German slang popo on Wikitionary: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Popo Quote:Popo m (genitive Popos, plural Popos) Other sources compare it to a range of slang for buttocks: http://www.wordhippo.com/what-is/the-meaning-of/german-word-popo.html Quote:behind, bottom, botty, butt, butts, bottoms, behinds RE: Popo is called Pepe in German - CuriousUserX90 - 04-04-2017 Despite this Submission being by MeleeWaluigi, DidYouKnowGaming posted the Forum Post it came from. How come? RE: Popo is called Pepe in German - SERIOUSLY THOUGH - 04-04-2017 Interesting to note that it's still "Popo" in French despite that being a puerile way of saying "going for a number two". You'd say of a baby or a small child; that he went "popo". RE: Popo is called Pepe in German - retrolinkx - 04-04-2017 To be honest, it's very close to "poo poo" for us. I'm surprised it wasn't changed for us since it's quite close. RE: Popo is called Pepe in German - ZpaceJ0ck0 - 04-04-2017 ^ Ah, I see. I have missed that. EDIT: but them again, you could argue that Mr.Popo from the DragonBall series never got his name changed in any of the english versions. RE: Popo is called Pepe in German - retrolinkx - 04-05-2017 ^ Or Poo (lol) from Earthbound.
