Pokémon movies. - retrolinkx - 08-29-2017 Thought I'd make a thread about the Pokemon movies, since I was just discussing some of them with friends. So how many of you guys are old enough to remember ACTUALLY going to the cinema to watch the first Pokemon movie? I was just talking with my friend about how I went there with my parents and brothers back in 1999/2000 or so. My parents had to basically sit there and watch the movie with us bored out of their minds while we were all enjoying the hell out of it. My mum still asks me to this day if the girl with psyduck is the show anymore, and funnily enough next time she asks I can tell her "yeah, she came back in the newest season". I still find it quite funny that critics panned the films for literally being a children's film. Saying "it's bad because if you're an adult you're going to hate it" and gave it low 10% scores, even though it was a box office hit. I'd say my favourite Pokémon movie was the Deoxys one just because it had some really interesting characters and the situation where the city was on lockdown and Pokéballs stopped working and they were in literal survival mode, having to sneak around to get food and such. Plus that kid who was afraid of Pokémon was actually a unique character in that universe which made the film even more interesting since you were always wondering if he'd turn his opinion on Pokémon around. The last Pokémon film I watched was the Zoroark one when it came out in 2010 or so. I'm around 7 movies behind at this point. I was considered rewatching them all since I haven't seen them in years. How about you guys, what films did you enjoy and watched? RE: Pokémon movies. - Kakariko Kid - 08-29-2017 I remember when the first Pokémon movie came out, but I've never watched any of them. RE: Pokémon movies. - SERIOUSLY THOUGH - 08-29-2017 Yessss I still remember the limited edition Mewtwo card we got (I lived in Scotland at the time), then went to Burger King and got a limited edition Mew card. I think that's why we went to BK. Pikachu on holiday(?) was a fun little pre-film short. Good times. Never watched the others. RE: Pokémon movies. - Arjahn - 08-29-2017 A lil' bit too young to go see the first few in theaters, but I always caught them when they were on TV and mannnnnn was I hyped for the Lucario movie when I was a kid. Looking back now, most of them aren't objectively that good and have their fair share of problems, but a handful are still really strong movies on their own. Pokemon 3 (the one with entei) is legitimately a fantastic movie even if you don't know anything about the franchise, the Celebi one is packed full of great moments even if the ending doesn't fit at all, and the first one is a classic in spite of weird tonal issues. I also friggen love the animated shorts before each of the older movies, which were mostly dialogue-less stories of Pokemon just dicking around. They really fleshed out the world and made me think that they're not just blocks of stats to hit other blocks with. Most recently I watched the newer one with Hoopa which was the equivalent of a kid taking all of his Pokemon toys and smashing them together for 90 minutes and it sorta sucked. RE: Pokémon movies. - CLXcool - 08-29-2017 I think I saw the first two movies in theaters when I was a kid. I never saw any of the other ones. RE: Pokémon movies. - Psychospacecow - 08-29-2017 I remember the first Pokemon movie. I think the only ones I've seen close to the same amount of times are the ones featuring The Unown with Entei and the one with Lugia fighting the original 3 elemental birds. RE: Pokémon movies. - Berry - 08-30-2017 The first time I saw it was probably at Camp when they were using the projector. I really enjoyed Mewtwo but disliked the cloning aspect of the movie, only because it reminded me of The Prestige plot twist. and it had a cheesy ending. I do recall really enjoying Pokémon 2000 but I remember very little of it. |
