Mamu, from Link's awakening is based on Mamu from Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic (game that was repackaged as Super Mario Bros 2 outside of Japan, with Mamu now called Wart).

Yeah, go ahead and submit on those grounds using the original source. Just make sure to change things up. Its our own, but we don't need to be making a habit of copy paste.
