Link can speak? - gamemaster1991 - 07-17-2013

OK, before I start I want to say that this trivia is true and I don't think that it should be removed, but it could be partly true. I wanted to ask everyone's opinion.

This trivia says that Link's first canonical spoken words were in Wind Waker.

I see that it is true, but there may be an earlier point. In Zelda 2, there is a point in Saria Town were Link has to look for a mirror under a table. When he finds it, a text box appears saying "I found a mirror under the table."

Now this looks like Link is saying it, but it could be just be a text box saying you found it. I'm not sure what to think about it. What do you think?
If it is true, cheshireson can have it if he wants it, since it was his trivia that made me question it.

I would have to say no since it's not vocal, but it's not for me to decide.

"first textual spoken word and first vocally spoken word"
just include both.

I guess that would work. "Zelda 2 was the first game to have Link speak a sentence but he did not have a voiced sentence until Wind Waker." It needs to be cleaned up, but it works for an example. I would still like to get another opinion if possible.

It is actually the result of a mistranslation, since in the original Japanese release of Zelda II, no pronouns were used, and so the text just displays a generic "You got" message. This also rings true with the "Looks like I can get in the fireplace" message.

RE: Link can speak? - gamemaster1991 - 07-18-2013

That's what I thought. I was thinking is was like the "You got the X" in later games, but I really wanted to check. Better to double check your information than to use what you have already and look like a fool latter.

Well Link answers people's questions as well when prompted. I think it's more to emphasize he's actually saying something out loud.

I want to bring back up this topic to see what you guys thought of this. In the place where you get the Face Key, there is a mural on the wall that tells you about the Wind Fish. (spoilers for people who have yet to play the game)

He could be thinking this, but it could be another result of a mistranslation like Zelda II. I wanted to run it past you guys.
