How is it? good or bad? because this is the first game I've ever made!

RE: Try my game please. - Combat Lobster - 08-07-2013

-Instructions looks like a story text dump with buried controls. It's ugly. Do something like this:

Left & Right keys = Rotate ship
Up key = Move forward
Down key = Move backwards
Spacebar = Shoot
Ctrl = Shield

It tells me everything I need to know to play. Honestly, a game this simple doesn't need a story tacked onto it. All you need to know is, "Shoot everything".

Edit: Now let's look at your HUD.

This is a representation of my center of attention while playing.
(It's not exact nor is it to scale. Click on the thumbnail to enlarge.)

Most of my attention is centered around the ship, and the only time I'm going to look away from the ship is to see if something is coming towards me. Which means some of the really important HUD elements like the shield bar, the laser cooldown bar, and the lives counter are NOT in my view. This means everytime I shoot at something I have to shift my attention away from the ship, risk dying, and quickly look at the cooldown bar to see when I can shoot again.

Now let's take a look at a game that did this right:

As you can see a cooldown bar shows up above the player to indicate when you can fire another shell. This is perfect, because the player character is always within my view meaning I don't have to look somewhere else on the screen to know when I can fire again.

More to come.

RE: Try my game please. - SERIOUSLY THOUGH - 08-08-2013

I didn't read the instructions (because playing without knowing what to do is much more fun).

For a first game, and depending on how much input you had in the making of the game (as in the difference between coding 100% of it and wanging something together on RPG Maker), this was pretty good !

Pros - Satisfying "pew pew" sounds.
Cons - No quick-scope option or Zombie DLC.

I made new changes in the game.

How is it now?
