The Settlers IV ~ References to earlier games in the series - Slax_Vice86 - 08-19-2013 Hi there! A couple of days ago I posted I submited some trivia regarding a little easter egg in Settlers IV... Anyway, I'm still waiting for it to get approved(if it ever gets, because of the source... I hadn't any). Aaaanyway, as I read that a post here could be a good idea, and eating lunch today I remembered some more little easter eggs, I decided to post it here. The Settlers(SerfCity) references: The game features two of them; one is to be found on any Settlers IV copy, the other one is only to be found on the german-only expansion pack"Die neue Welt"(The new world). http://oi44.tinypic.com/1gli8k.jpg The game allows to build some decoration biuldings(called"eyecatchers") that vary from race to race. The romans can build a statue simply called"Knight", which seems a little out of place, as it's a medieval knight. The knight, however, is the same knight that appeared on the boxart of the first Settlers game(at least european versions, as the american"SerfCity"seems to have a completely different[and creepy] boxart). http://oi39.tinypic.com/250l5yb.jpg The new world expansion pack for Settlers IV brings many new mission types, not only beating an enemy. One of the roman missions of the expansion pack states that the romans have shipwrecked on a desert-like island. Nearby, however, is an island which offers plenty of fresh water. The island, though, is private property of the"Island Lord", to which you have to pay gold to be able to get water. The Island Lord's castle happens to be an"HD"version of the Settlers 1 castle, which was always the first and most important building. Settlers II reference: Settlers IV does only feature one Settlers II reference(at least that I'm aware of), and does also happen to be featured on the New World expansion pack. http://oi44.tinypic.com/b68rxx.jpg In the trojan campaign of the New World, the trojans had to flee from Troja, as it was conquered by romans. Fleeing from the romans, they found an island which had a portal. This portal could take the trojans far away enough from the romans so that they would stop chasing them. This is a little reference to Settlers II, as many campaign missions featured a portal, which had to be both conquered and crossed. This is also true for the Settlers II remake. Settlers III reference: At last, there is also a reference to Settlers III(again, only one that I'm aware of and, again, in the new world expansion pack... Plenty of fanservice there!). http://oi43.tinypic.com/2sa086e.jpg The last two viking missions involve finding an island full of women. The island is settlers on and the women found in their very last mission. Once you beat the mission, you get to see the women(actually, you only see one... I hope the vikings like sharing!)... Interesting is the fact that for the women building they decided to take a building from Settlers III, which is appropiate as one of the game's expansion packs added the Amazons as a playable race. The building seen is a higher resolution and animated version of the amazon's Waterworker's hut. Anyway, if I happen to find something else, I'll update the post. Please, feel free to comment or correct me if you see something wrong! |
