Online Passes - Mass Distraction - 03-17-2013

And your opinions on them.

I recently bought the PlayStation Essentials version of Driver San Francisco and I had to go back to the damn "Press Start" screen at least three times to actually get my online pass working. It was such an unnecessary chore.

In case you didn't know, some companies are doing this to cut the used games' sales which is just complete bs because at some point in time, these games won't be available new in store anymore. While you could, of course, download a digital copy some of us do prefer a physical copy.

This is not the only thing they're doing, though, as for example Resident Evil Mercenaries 3D for the 3DS won't allow you to start the game over or delete the saves. No one is going to buy something like that used, right?

Then, of course, there's the news about Sony and Microsoft implementing technology against used games for their upcoming consoles.

Discuss!

This is just pointless and irritating for everyone, it makes it a chore to actually play the damn game if you buy it new, and discourages buying it used.

I can tell you this, Gamefly isn't liking these.

I understand why they are doing this, but they are doing more harm than good with it. The thing that really makes me mad is the Resident Evil thing. Is that pretty much saying if you want to play it again you have to buy it again? That's ridiculous! But back to online passes, it's already enough on the Xbox that you have to pay a ridiculous amount of money to play online, but they expect you to pay MORE to play ONE SPECIFIC game online... that's just crazy. Games are expensive nowadays, and punishing people for getting a game at a cheaper price just isn't right in my opinion.

And I understand.

I hate online passes. I hate renting a game and being cut off of some features because I don't have an online pass.
