Another one, Joanna Dark from Perfect Dark.
Another one, Talim from Soul Calibur. All she has interest in is people's safety. She's an orphan who protects orphans and can take down a giant demon in azure armor holding a 10 ft long manifestation of evil in blade form.
Another, Dagger from Final Fantasy 9.
Another, Lucca from Chrono Trigger.
Kid from Chrono Cross.
Anya from Gears of War
Cass from Fallout New Vegas
Zoey and Roshell from Left 4 Dead.
If you don't think there aren't many strong women in games then you aren't playing the right ones. I named these off the top of my head, and for that matter, Samus is as awesome with or without that zero suit. (Main reason, she's a walking arsenal in the actual non-spandexy suit)
There will always be other examples in games for both sides. Sitras and Mileenas, Dukes and Marcuses.
Excluding the games I've never seen nor played, I see your point. There are SO many women in games that make great role models, which I think is one of the point in the argument.
Talim is there to protect her village and, though she wears some what realing clothes, is not sexuilzed.
Though I have never played Chrono Cross, I have played Chrono trigger, and all of it's characters are great characters, including the love interest and the cave chick, who have motives and characters out side of being the love interest and the cave chick. Marle wants to save the world (I believe she brought up the idea in game) and Ayla wants to protect her tribe from the reptiles and Lavos.
Hell, I can't think of one Square Enix character that is there just to be the girl. Tifa has big breasts, but what else? Well she is friends with Cloud, very loyal to each of her friends, protects whats she believes in and other things I can't think of because I have never played the game. Each main character is given character to make them likeable and different. This is why Vanille, Rikku, and Selphie are the way they are.
I also probably gave you the wrong idea of Samus. I like Samus, but most of the games that people name off that she is in have her look like a soulless machine out to kill Aliens, with the exaption of Super Metriod. I like what they tried to do with Other: M, though it was flawed. She has a good back story and there is a way to show off her character besides haveing her shoot things and showing she spared a baby.

Yeah, but most people name the older Metroids because that's what they grew up with, ya know. Nostalgia plays a big factor in such things and they were good games. That's why they talk about them.

There's my point in a nutshell. People love those games and yet, games with female leads or games with a female character in the center of the story are deemed as non-profitable by some developers. Why is that?

But other than that. I mean, some of those people must have at least heard of Mirror's Edge and Tomb Raider.

I'll try to make this short. Most games that star a female lead seem to not get that high of ratings. Perfect Dark was over looked by many people for what ever reason, Kameo was a flop, and there have been many games with Women as leads that have not selled well (it was mostly because it tried too hard to market them to Men that the game play lacked). Think about the examples above. Lucca from Chrono Trigger had Chrono as the real lead, Anya from Gears of War had Marcus and Dom, Zoey and Roshell from Left 4 Dead, had three other guys to share the lead roles with. Dagger may be an exemption but she still has Zidane to share the lead with. You guys will probably prove me wrong (please do) but it's hard to find a solo female lead that also good. They are mostly given a male lead to ether share it with or overshadow them. The only game I can think with Female leads that (I think) sold well were Final Fantasy X-2 and Heavenly Sword.
It's just a saver bet for developers to make a male lead the focus that to have a female lead and that's sad.

Mirror's Edge, Bayonetta, Lollipop Chainsaw, Liberation Maiden, Steal Princess, Final Fantasy XIII (depends on who you ask), Portal and Tomb Raider come to mind. Then there's Metroid but that's been already up for discussion. I'm not yet sure how Remember Me did but I plan on buying it.

Lollipop Chainsaw is hard to count but I'll take it. Thank you for proving me wrong. How could I forget Mirror's Edge and Portal? Final Fantasy even has a strong Female to overshadow the male lead, so a better example.

I also forgot Resident Evil Code: Veronica. I would also throw in Revelations but Jill kinda shares most of that game with Parker, Chris and a plethora of other characters.

I hadn't heard of that "dudes kissing dudes" thing. I guess that developer has never heard of such a smalltime company as Bioware.
I'm kinda interested, though, who did they pitch the game first?

The dudes kissing dudes meant a dude (the player) would never even think of controlling the female player and making her kiss. Too gross, apparently.
And, Final Fantasy VI had a large cast for a super Nintendo game, but it had some strong females, with Terra in lead role. One also can't forget Celes.

I was going to put in a clip of Male Shepard kissing a dude, but that I realized that they only kiss before they "do the dead," and I chickened out. As much as I am with gay rights, I still would not like to "see" them do it. So you have to deal with the picture.
Still, if Bioware can be comfortable with having a Male and Female Shepard, and giving them both gay lovers, why can't every company? hell Persona has a gay party member, but this is getting off topic. The point is, We really don't care if the character is kissing a dude or kissing a chick.

Ah. Well, my point still kinda stands. If you can have gay relationships in games stuff like that shouldn't be a problem either. Some people are just way too stuck up in the 50s.
