In the Wizard of Oz book Dorothy wears silver slippers. They tried this with the movie but found that they didn't really "pop" on camera, so they were changed to ruby instead.
Also, an original pair of the ruby slippers used to be on display in my very own state, specifically Grand Rapids MN, but sadly...

Once, a skateboarding magazine by the name of "Big Brother" had two writers hunt down the then current world champion aggressive inline skater Arlo Eisenberg. Dressed as if they were Steve Erwin, crocodile hunter, they tackled him as he was airing a gap while yelling in Australian accents. This caused Arlo to fall so hard that he actually broke his hand.
(Watch a video of the tackle behind the spoiler, at the 1:45 mark) To this day, there is a minor rivalry between skateboarders and rollerbladers. Wonder why?

Not sure if it's already been posted, but if you accidentally close a tab, just press ctrl + shift + t. It reopens whatever tab you just closed. Nifty!

Acme. The name used in Looney Toons, and many more cartoons alike is not made up, and is an actual company that was around during the beginnings of the telephone, and the yellow pages.
Because the yellow pages were alphabetized. It would show A first so companies wanted their products to be the first to be seen, meaning that people would call their products "ACME "Product"" so it would be the first one people would see in a phone book. So, if you were looking for Anvils. Acme Anvils would be the first thing you would see by looking at it in the phone book. Very few of these companies still exist today, but you could probably find them in the phone book.

Marie Antoinette is famously quoted as saying "Let them eat cake" when she was told people were starving from the bread shortage. This is not really what she said. What she really said was "Let them eat brioche," brioche being a very rich type of bread. I am unsure of why the quote was changed, but it could be due to her being an unpopular ruler and this was to show off how disconnected she was from her subjects

Here's a great fact for the Pixar fans out there.
Toy story originally was going to have a different plot. The main charicter was going to be Tinny, the title character in movie Tin Toy. Tinny was going to get lost at a rest stop, where a trash man found him and trows him away. He was going to go all over the place with a ventriloquist dummy to find a place where they could belong. In the end they end up in a preschool where they’ll never get lost or outgrown. Sounds like Pixar shelved the idea and gave it to the third movie, as this is more or less the plot for Toy Story 3. The fact does not end there. This here is Tinny. In the daycare/preschool in Toy Story 3, there is a book with Tinny on the cover.

This one blew my mind when it was confirmed by Greg Weisman.
Remember Disney's Gargoyles? Particularly Hudson and Broadway?: They're father and son!

The Fixx had an unusual career, in the fact they never became famous in their home country. The British band highest chart appearance on the UK charts was 54, when their single "Stand or Fall was released.
However, the several of the band's albums went platinum or gold in the U.S. and Canada. The band even had 3 number 1s on the Mainstream Rock Charts in the US, and 6 top 40s in the same country. Very few bands do so well in another country while remaining virtually unknown back home.

Six TV Facts You Probably Never Knew:
The meth seen in braking bad is actually non-toxic (no duh) and is actuality eaten by the cast and crew. This is because it is really blue rock candy. The Jetsons went on hiatus in 1963 and stay there for 22 years, as the next new episode did not air until 1985. At first, the Daleks were not used in the new Doctor Who seires. This is because Steve Martin (very funny actor and big fan of Doctor Who) used the Daleks in the movie, "Looney Tunes: Back In Action" without the permison of the BBC. They refused to air any episodes with Daleks until Steve Martin wrote a letter of apology to the head writer. Batman Beyond (the best batman out there) was made because the WB thought it's viewers were getting to old for Batman the animated series. Shaggy from Scooby Doo is a vegetarian. His voice actor, Casey Kasem, was a vegetarian and asked if they could make Shaggy one too. This is why he stays away from meat on the shows and movies. Well, most of the time at lest. Phill Lewis (Mr. Moseby from The Suite Life of Zack and Cody) served a year in jail for Manslaghter when he ran over a 21 year old female in 1993. So for my Scrubs fans out there:

The ancient vikings actually had a very healthy trade route with the ancient Muslims in Iran. It's not uncommon to find Islamic coins in Viking graves, and most of the steel from viking swords seems to have come from ancient Iran.
And they never wore horns on their helmets.

In the 1980's, Ralph Bakshi and John K(Ren and Stimpy) were planning on doing an animated feature. The feature was called Bobby's girl. It was supposed to be a parody of the popular teen films at the time(like the movies from John Hughes). The film didn't get made due to some creative differences with Tristar pictures. John and Ralph would later direct a music video of the song "The Harlem Shuffle"(Ralph directing the live-action while John directed the animation). Concept art of the purposed feature can be seen in the unfiltered art book of Ralph Bakshi
