The new Wolfenstein is pretty good in terms of story and atmosphere.

This just in. Rare now has creative freedom. After all these years Microsucks finally listens?

It's too late.

All the good people who were in Rare pre-microsoft are gone.

The miracle happened too late.

I feel bittersweet about hearing this Retro. I am glad that Rare now has creative freedom, but it would have been better if it happened around 2007(when most of the creative guys were still at Rare). So yeah. bittersweet about it.

Although I still have hope that something good can come out of the new Rare (at lest better than changeling a platformer into a car builder). We may get the next Conker, Banjo, or Combatfrogs (Battletoads) or we could get something new that we will all love, as rare as that may be.

Good news regardless. Maybe we can finally get that Banjo Kinect game we've always wanted.

If they do another Conker game(if it be Other Bad fur day or even a completely different platform game with Conker). It wont be the same since Chris Seavor is not at Rare anymore.

A kinect exclusive game starring Kazooie, titled Kazooie's Kinect Adventures. It's 10 hours of flapping your arms around like an idiot and shouting bird sounds at Banjo. QTEs galore, day 1 DLC, and microtransactions.

"Like Skyrim with Birds"

Rare predicted that Kinect was gonna be shitty(since they pitched a game about a bird taking a dump on random people as a joke).

Be careful now. Some of them offer items that get you bonuses online. Plus, if you get the Xbox One version, you get a special hat!

I'm glad to see that everyone is happy about Rare and the possibilities of what could happen, especially since Microsoft "listened".

*One week later*

I'd now like to completely destroy all of your hopes and dreams:

Quote:A Microsoft spokesperson issued Eurogamer the following statement this afternoon:

"At Xbox, our goal is to constantly create new fun, social and interactive entertainment experiences. As part of Rare's commitment to this goal, we have made a decision to change our development process and methodology at Rare to best support our future projects, this has led to us reviewing the skills and the makeup of our development teams in our business.

"Rare continues to invest in our people and future projects."

While Microsoft did not confirm how many people had been let go, Eurogamer understands the number is around 16, a figure one source said was made up of some software staff, but mainly design and project managers. Kinect Sports Rivals was a 150 person project.

Microsoft also declined to explain why the changes were made, but the sales performance of the recently-released Kinect Sports Rivals may have played a part. It had been intended as an Xbox One launch title, but was delayed to April. When it did release, it entered the UK all-formats chart in 14th place. One source indicated to Eurogamer Rare suffered a significant loss on the project.

Quote:Sources close to the Microsoft-owned studio indicated that just under 20 employees are set to depart, including veteran programmer Chris Sutherland, who has worked on Rare games for more than 20-years.

During his distinguished career Sutherland acted as lead programmer on Battletoads, as well as all three Donkey Kong Country and Banjo-Kazooie games. He's also known as the 'voice' of the latter's bear and bird protagonists.

CVG sources indicate that designer Gavin Price will also leave Rare, after a 15-year career which saw him work on Viva Pinata, Grabbed by the Ghoulies, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts and a number of unannounced, cancelled projects.

Basically: Rare fired 20 people due to Kinect Sports: Rivals failing to sell what Microsoft had hoped for. One of the biggest lay-offs is Chris Sutherland who worked as Programmer and Voice actor for many Rare game such as the Donkey Kong series, Banjo-Kazooie and Battletoads for over 20 years..
