Gamecube was your first console, Mine was N64 were you born during the sixth gen

1996. I had my brothers' hand-me-down Game Boy Colors, plus we had a PS1 and later a Dreamcast (which was very early for the sixth generation) but the GameCube was the first console that was mine and didn't belong to my older brothers.

It's the PS2 for me, hands down. I liked the Xbox and GC, but they didn't have enough for me. PS2 had the best selection of RPGS and had MGS. It's pretty tough to compete with that for me

Dreamcast 5 Ever.

It saddens me that no one voted until I did.

I mean think about it guys. It sold half as many Gamecube's in 3 years, than the Gamecube did in 7.

I could go on and on, but no one would read it anyhow.

Sony 4 life. While I do love my Dreamcast, Sony platforms have always been closer to heart.

I'm starting to get the feeling that most of this site are fans of Nintendo.

Out of that choice, I'll go for the Dreamcast since that has the charm and a story of hope and dreams smashed by financial problems at Sega, lack of internet stucture (the UK didn't have affordable broadband until at least 2004 and became mainstream when the 360/PS3 were gaining ground), reliablity problems of the laser and the lack of one Electronic Arts. However the console was a looker with that all white non-Sega like case with the blue swirl. Yes, the blue swirl to remind you that Sega was thinking with its loud loader even if it never manged to get towards the 6 billion people goal. The name like all of Sega's consoles except the Game Gear are non-console/computer like unlike the competition that added an extra bit of style. Plus the VMU provided a different experience at the time even if getting the batteries was much rarer back then (now they are quite easy to find). The games that really did bring the arcade experience home with many arcade perfect ports (some are even better than their arcade counterparts due to extra modes) thanks to the similarities of the NAOMI arcade board but also pushed the benchmark further than before such as Shenmue that people didn't believe it was possible when they first saw screenshots of the game.

Apart from the laser, the only thing that let it down was the controller not being very good with the sharp D pad and the lousy analog stick even though it had a good idea (the 360 controller is based on the Dreamcast one layout and trigger wise and that is miles better in every way).

Even at its tiny life cancelled before its time (in an alternative universe, we would be playing a finished and successful Propeller Arena and a released Colin McRae Rally 2.0 on the machine with other games maybe even Jet Set Radio Future), it managed to get a pretty good library with only a few really bad games. So far it seems the Vita is heading towards being a modern day handheld version of it (really good system, good library, port machines, non-console sounding name but little support) even if both names are opposites of each other with a dream being a fictional thing while life is real.

GameCube and PS2 are second placers. For GameCube, it wasn't very successful over here like many Nintendo consoles that aren't the Wii or the handhelds so finding games weren't easy to find. I might like the various games that were on the system like Luigi's Mansion, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Mario Sunshine to a degree, same thing to Star Fox Adventures and even a bit of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker but there weren't as many games that appealed to me even if Nintendo was at their best which they were. Plus I'm not too keen on the look of the console especially the handle making it look like a lunchbox (without the handle though and it would have been much better) even though I actually do like the size of the discs and the controller is better than the Dreamcast one.

The PS2 might have OutRun 2006 (one of my favourite games of all time), the Sly Cooper series, Silent Scope 2, Gran Turismo 3 & Concept, the Midway Arcade Treasures series (they weren't released on the Gamecube in Europe) and some pretty good games but I don't feel as attached to it. The look of the machine was okay but could have been better (same thing as the original PS1 actually) and mainly got it since the Dreamcast died as in no more games back in 2001 and wanted my own console with a DVD player. Judging by graphics, the PS2 was weaker than the competition but in the end of the day it is about the games. I always liked the PS controllers though.

Oh and Xbox was completely out of the question. I still don't see Microsoft as a gaming manufacturer even if the 360 is successful just like older players don't see Sony as one. Plus the size of the console, it was massive like a tank by comparison.

Sony platforms are more closer to my heart, just not the PS2 for some reason (even have more games on the PSP than the PS2 and I originally bashed the PSP until I got one). I still like Nintendo but not as much as quite a lot of people on the Internet (I would put Nintendo a close 3rd with Sega and Sony being tight 1 and 2) since many of their games aren't for me.

Tough choice between PS2 and Dreamcast. I felt like every Dreamcast game I managed to play was charming and polished. With the PS2, there were so many games that inevitably some would be good.

I don't understand the love for the GameCube though... Genuinely found it hard to find games I enjoyed on it beyond Melee and Sonic Adventure ports from the Dreamcast :\

Ah man, tough question.

Halo 1, Sunshine and Battlefront 2 all have special places in my heart.

Though I hate to admit it, PS2 would probably win out. It just had so much more third party support it was ridiculous.

I'll freely admit that I'm a fan of Nintendo, but when I voted for PS2. When it comes down to it, I played the PS2 more than the Gamecube.

As much as I really love a lot of the Gamecube games (Smash Bros., Wind Waker, Resident Evil Remake, Luigi's Mansion, Pikmin, Animal Crossing) there are still more PS2 games than Gamecube ones that I love just as much. (I'd say more than double, maybe more than triple!) There are currently maybe three Gamecube games I do not have, but want. (Custom Robo, Pokemon XD, Baten Kaitos) I can think of a ton of PS2 games (The whole .Hack//GU series. Ar Tonelico, Atelier Iris, Shadow Hearts, GrimGrimoire, among countless others.)

I love the Dreamcast too, and really thought of picking it, but decided against it for the same reason. I own about as many Dreamcast games as I do Gamecube ones. Combined, it's not even half of my PS2 library.
