Same reason people prefer the POS Mario Lost Levels over Mario USA. Because their stupid.

That being said, I don't care for the orignal LoZ. It's just.... not fun. I prefer A Link to the Past, Majora's Mask, and Twilight Princess.

I don't really have anything to contribute to this conversation, as I'm not a huge fan of any Zelda, but I just wanted to say that I think it's funny that you used the wrong "they're" when calling people stupid :P

Maybe he is referring to the peoples' stupid as an object/item, like "their stupidity knows no bounds?" 

Also, Mario 2 USA is a way better game that the Lost Levels. The Lost Levels is a game that feels like it was meant to be frustrating rather than fun. Mario 2 USA is actually enjoyable. If there is ever a Mario game I won't own, it'd be The Lost Levels.

I also agree. I beat the game in the Super MArio All-Stars PAck only so I would not have to play it agien. I plan on owning a Famicom Disc system one day and I don't think Lost Levels is going to be in my collection. Mario USA, on the other hand, is in my top five favorite Mario games (Right below Mario World 1 & 2 and Mario Galaxy and above Mario Land).

I now understand why people chose the "Not all series is perfect" option.

The problem is that this isn't even a joke. People really debate that stupidly about Zelda and so many other games. Nostalgia never makes a good game, if you think it does, you've seriously got to rethink your gaming mindset. Liking old games you grew up with is one thing, saying those games are better because you grew up with them or dismissing other games that came out later, makes you a fool, and so many people (though I don't anyone here is like this) do just that and are fools.

That's the reason I play devil's advicate to people who are nostalgia blind. I could be the person that calls all MArio game great and will call MArio 64 perfict in every single way, but that would mean I would be ignoring  gient problums with the games (controls and camrea for 64, the later which still is a problum in some Mario games).

I really don't like Nostalgia since all it really does is limit our mind sets going forward.

For a lot of people, having fond memories of a game can utterly change how you think of it. I can freely admit that Pokemon Stadium 2 isn't that good of a game. Battling alone gets stale pretty quickly, the mini-games are a cute distraction at best, and without a Gen 1/2 game, the game is balls hard. I will also admit that Pokemon Stadium 2 is one of my absolute favorite N64 games, simply due to how many fond memories I have playing the game when I was younger. Egg Emergency was a huge time sink, and having 4-player battles with my siblings was a lot of fun. My sister and I still get a kick out of playing it today, but not as much as I used to.

For many, there favorite in a series is the one they played first, simply due to the fact that they have nostalgia tied to that game, whether or not it has objective problems. I don't think anyone who is nostalgic over any game is trying to say it's objectively the best in the series, or even that it's good game, but that they simply believe this game to be the best. Are they saying that for the "right" reasons? That's your call. 

(On a funny note, the Zelda game I did play when I was 12, A Link to the Past, I find to be overrated. My favorite Zelda game (Majora's Mask) I hated when I was younger, and only later gained an appreciation for.)

I've never met an F-Zero game I didn't love.

Besides those, I just get games in a series that interests me.

Funny. And funny enough, OoT came out when I was 14 (closest Zelda release in America to my 12th birthday). I remember the night I bought it and I remember literally shaking when I first turned the game on with the controller in my hands. 
But, nostalgia didn't save it on my list. Majora's Mask, A Link to the Past and Windwaker are my top three with Ocarina of Time at 4.

Just personally, I see it as a cumulative thing. You don't take one person's opinion and make it your own. You look around, see if anything speaks to you, consider contradictions, at least 3 different reviewers from 3 different sources, and at least one of them not directly affiliated with a major reviewer.... and don't trust steam reviews.

I really don't care about reviews or what oyher people have to say. Someone could find one thing wrong in a game and it could be the worse game ever. Someone could find the exact same thing in another game and it could be the best game ever. I just prefer going with what looks good.

On topic though, no I really don't care much for scores. Unless there is universal hate for a game I will probably play it, the problem is that a lot of reviewers are paid and reviews can't be trusted. IGN gave Halo 4 a 9.8. No sane person would give that game anything about a 6.

Usually if there is universal like for something or it's mentioned a lot, I go and play it and make my own opinions of it regardless of the reviews.

Reviewers are full of crap. I remember reading more than one review where a game's score would get knocked down for a problem that wasn't in the game (i.e. this playable character is weaker than this one even though by all accounts he/she shouldn't be). I look at the reviewers that don't score from time to time but for the most part, it's total paid off bull.

I look up youtube videos and look for opinions of people without any subscribers because their review caters to no one: they have no audience. Then I buy games on 3-4 random people's opinions.

I don't think most reviews can be accepted on face value unless gameplay footage is supplemented with it. By which the only reviewer I think that applies to this the best is Angry Joe.

This also applies to me, in a way, but instead of me scoring them I just say whether I had fun and whether I'd recommend it. Because that's what it all boils down to: not numbers, but recommendations.
