General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread
#1
As you guys can tell by my username, I'm a pretty big anime fan. Why not make a thread to help contain it all in?

Truth me told actually, I recently just had a break from anime as there was a list of video games that I wanted to tackle, and decided that I could use a break from the medium and do something different. However, I have started watching some anime again and will hopefully catch up with the Winter shows I was watching before I stopped.

At the moment, I recently started Katanagatari which has been quite a treat so far. It has a style that interests me and the animation is pretty fluid as it gives off this very "cool" vibe. Matched with an interesting mix of jazz and hip hop for part of the OST, it becomes very enjoyable to watch and listen to.

The characters themselves I quite like as the main two have some interesting chemistry and fun dialogue that I like between the two. One praise that I must give to one of the main characters is that even though he's sort of an idiot due to the fact that was isolated with only his family, they don't exaggerate on that one character trait and make it his whole character like some others shows do.

As far as manga goes, I tend to go off and read a couple chapters of Black Jack here and again. I love his morals and how he just isn't a "Help anyone for free!" type of main character. That matched with Tezuka's usually sillyness (though he is known to dive into dark works such as some of Black Jack and MW) with the other characters makes it a joy to read.

So what of you? Use this thread to talk about any anime/manga you're watching/reading, favorite anime/manga, etc.

I used to watch a good bit of anime, but I kinda grew out of it. Now I can tolerate a series if it's short and I'm watching with friends to riff on it some. (Really want to get back into that >_>)

Here's all the anime I've seen: (WARNING: I did a bad job updating my list)

I've seen a lot of anime but never really finished a lot of them, I only recently started watching them to the end on the interwebs and on TV. So really all the ones I've finished are, Cannan, Darker Than Black, Blood+, Samurai 7, Angel Beats, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Cowboy Bebob, Casshern Sins, and Noir. The ones I'm current watching are Soul Eater, Eureka Seven, and Psycho-Pass. Although I can tell you the story of a few animes without ever watching them because I read visual novels, and if they are good enough those get turned into animes just like manga do, and they use anime style art like manga do. As for those I've read Clannad, Little Busters, Tsukihime, Fate/stay night, Kanon, Remember11 -the age of infinity-, DaCapo, Katawa Shoujo, and I'm almost done with Rewrite. (not all of them have been turned into animes they are just relevant to the thread.)

Also I don't have a list so I will do my best to name off any anime I've seen at least one episode of besides the ones I've already named.

Dragon Ball/Z/GT, Zoids, a lot of the Pokemons, Hamtaro, Sailor Moon, Bleach, Inuyasha, Ghost in the Shell: 2nd GIG, Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, IGPX: Immortal Grand Prix, Zatch Bell, MÄR, The Prince of Tennis, Deadman Wonderland, (I've actually watched every episode of Deadman Wonderland but the anime was cut after one season because no one in japan watched it so it's unfinished even though I've seen every episode) Naruto, and One Piece.

Going off what you like, if you were to ask me for a recommendation, I would say go with Fate/Zero. It's a great action series with a beautiful score and a fantastic story that really portrays its themes well. One of my personal favorite series if I may add.

Found this while lurking around on SA's "Your awful anime forum", it's a series synopse and recommendation wiki dedicated to helping old anime nerds find something new as well as newcomers who are looking to try anime, but don't want to bother with skimming episodes of the latest "Pretty Rainbow Princess-sama: HERO GO!" to find what suits their tastes. (I just wished I found this sooner so I could show it to Arjahn when he was looking to try anime.)

There are a lot of solid series on those lists, both for newcomers and for old watchers.

One anime I actually really tend to recommend to people who really aren't into anime is Bacanno. It's around 13 episodes and has a great mixture of action, comedy, and mystery with some of the best characters I have come across in an anime. Not only that, but it also has a very western feeling considering that it takes place in New York with mobsters abound, all set to a jazzy beat. Many seem to love it, so I can call it a good starting point for some.

I've kind of taken a break from watching anime lately, but I started watching Cowboy Bebop to get back into things.

Angel Beats is one I can recommend to most people. That one kind of caught me off guard for how good it was, and the last episode made me feel things. Haruhi, Totoro, Clannad, the usual stuff really. Spice and Wolf is interesting, albeit boring at times. I mostly watch stupid comedies like To-Love-Ru.

And Pokemon, obviously.

I read and watch a lot of manga/comics and cartoons/anime. Because I just absolutely can't animate it's my sworn duty in life to indulge myself in the world of animation so I can at least see what other people can do. Thus far I've seen... lots. Here's my AnimePlanet page if you wanna see how I've used my free time: linky link

I don't really have all that much time to actually sit down and watch full series anymore but I try to catch a few episodes here and there whenever I do have time. I think I've been watching the animated Spawn series for a couple of years now :D I still need to see the last few episodes. I still have a full list of stuff that I actually need to watch and/or read.

My favorite animes include Outlaw Star, TTGL, Angel Beats!, Higurashi and HotD. There are lots of others but those are my main favorites atm. Favorite manga is either DragonBall or Fullmetal Alchemist. I'll refrain from going into cartoons and comics to cut down the length of this post.

Don't you just love copy-paste posts?

I am an anime fan, but I haven't delved very deep into anime too much. My favorites are Naruto, Naruto Shippuden, and Full Metal Alchemist.

You're not suppose to admit that!

On the filpside of things, there's gonna be a new Dragonball Z movie in the works which involves Goku punching Anubis in the face, repeatedly. This is canon.

At the moment, I'm getting close to finishing Tiger x Bunny and the
first season of the new JoJo's Bizarre Adventure anime. I'm also looking
into Madoka Magica, since I heard it has a pretty dark story. I also
finished watching the Persona 4 anime a little while ago. As for manga,
I'm going back and reading the fifth, sixth, and seventh arc of the JJBA
manga.

Watch it. It has a beautiful storyline and great characters. This is a good summary of it:
