Not even using your Club Nintendo account, which keeps track of everything you purchase from their e-shops, is proof enough to get your stuff back for free if you get a new 3DS to replace your corrupted, stolen, or broken one. Nearly every company ever that has an online service has accounts for their customers to keep track of their purchases, except Nintendo. I love the company, but that is just appalling.
They do replace it if its broken or corrupted. Just not lost or stolen. Since the requirement is you have to send it in to Nintendo.
But I agree the system is out-dated and terrible.
