I don't mean to gripe, but shouldn't this be in the 'Help' section? Help section don't get enough love. T_T
I do most of my editing with Avisynth which is a programming based editor, but you don't have to use if you're more comfortable with something else. I do recommend you try to do your encoding through MeGUI as it's a very powerful encoder and it can help with lowering down the file size while maintaining quality. If you want a frame of reference this is a video I edited in Camtasia (File size: 890mb) and encoded with MeGUI (Down to 89mb): Note this is the first time I used MeGUI to encode outside of test videos, so you can actually manage better quality with some tweaking. I'll link you to a good guide on how to set it up.
Here's a beginner's guide and a link to Avisynth if you're interested.

Lagarith. It's a codec that's like uncompressed, but better. Good for exporting footage to other programs without lossing quality.
Nero Acc audio codec. It's a great codec for encoding audio.
Here's a nice guide on Auto-ducking audio with audacity.
Here's a link to the Doom9 forums and some other sites and guides. I haven't looked into it too much myself, but I've heard it is a great reference.
