One of the main reasons for CCTV is to lower crime but it hasn't made a difference. I don't hate CCTV, just the amount of camera we have does have an..."orwellian" feel to it.(06-09-2013, 03:01 PM)BumblebeeCody Wrote:(06-09-2013, 11:12 AM)Beware of Cuccos Wrote:(06-08-2013, 11:22 PM)Arjahn Wrote: How far is too far when it comes to government surveillance?
I think it's been too far for years now. At least since they started putting up cameras at red lights. A few years ago, there was a study done that said you're on camera on average 18 times a day. I could only imagine what that is now. Oh, and I have no doubt in my mind they can access/tap into anyones phone/computer/etc at any time.
I'm a huge conspiracy theorist so I was pretty excited to see this one.
I've seen statistics:
That the average Londoner is caught on camera 300 times a day
The UK has 20% of the entire worlds CCTV cameras(which is more than China)
4 million CCTV camera which is around 1 camera for every 14 people

...and it's all bullshit to me.
I find it funny, because all the while I don't have an issue with this. So people can see me when I walk down the street... I'm in public. That's a good thing. It's nice to know there is somebody possibly watching over me in case, god forbid, someone tries to stab or mug me.
I don't understand why people are so scared of CCTV... It's incredibly good. You might not have noticed this, but we really don't kill each other as much as a lot of other countries where they don't have so much CCTV.
I get you want privacy, but then why the fuck are you in a public place if you want privacy? Go home and wank there, stop doing it where they would put a camera.
