The name is the proof that the character has the same appearance of mario only with a different swap color indicating that only the second player can play as him.

The name is just that. A name. I have his Japanese name and someone's word on what it means, but that's it. I went to a few sites to see if it is true but came up with nothing. I even went to a translation site and got (形) 同じような; 相似の ((Similar form); of the resemblance) and putting in his Japanese name, I just got Luigi. Unless someone can prove me wring, It looks like I just wasted my time.

I hate it when people give out fake facts because it makes me look stupid. I'm sorry for wasting everyone's time if this is false.

OK. Time to look really stupid in front of everyone right now. After writing that last post, I did one last search of "Luigi similar" on a different search engine. Low and behold, I was lead to the one place I avoid going when researching trivia, Wikipedia, and guess what, they have a news articular on the Super Mario Bros. http://news.google.co.uk/newspapers?id=J...ario&hl=en

So it turns out that Luigi's Japanese name, Ruīji, is similar in spelling to ruiji meaning "similar." I could only find the Japanese spelling for Luigi, so if someone could provide it for me, I would be grateful, though it could just be the same thing from reading the paper.
