People really think that remakes are bad because they add too much to a character. Example most people like to bring up is the fact that The "New" Nightmare On Elm Street made him into a child molester, rather than a child killer. Did you know that this was originally going to be what his character was? It was in the book, "Screams and Nightmares: The Films of Wes Craven" so it should be true.
Also, Freddy's long arms in the first movie were made from broomsticks.
Lastly, a more well known fact, the plot for the movie was based on a case where a kid was scared to go to sleep thinking that he was going to be killed. He died a week or so later after his parents made him go to sleep.
