The level "Joe & Silvia" seems to be a giant reference to Star Wars. First off, the poster for the level seen in the game's credits is an obvious parody of the Star Wars poster. The enemy Die Fighters make their one and only appearance in this stage, and are an obvious reference to the Tie Fighters. The whole level takes place on a space station, like the Death Star. Lastly, (SPOILER FOR VIEWTIFUL JOE) Captain Blue reveals he is Silvia's father, with Silvia denying it and say her father is dead, with Captain Blue saying that deep down she knows it to be true, A reference to Episode V where Darth Vade tells Luke he is his father.
Also, another bit of trivia. R.O.B. can be seen chilling in the background of the first half of the stage. (and he wasn't taken out of the PS2 version.)
