You could always use a memory stick or an external hard drive. Sadly not all save files can be copied to those, for those you'll need a PS+ account. Still, it's only a handful of games that don't let you copy the saves. I have like three of my massive catalogue of games.
As for getting a new PS3 to play more games... Why? You can swap the HDD with ease. Just cram in something that's big enough to hold all your gaming, like a 1 or 2tb drive. All laptop hard drives work fine with a PS3 so you should not even have a hard time finding a cheap HDD to use.
I had no clue you could do that. I just thought the data was in the system and you could not get it out and put it somewhere else. I tryed useing a memory stick but I could not figure out how to copy saves over to it.
