Don't worry, by the end of season one they explain more specifically why no electrical devices of any kind are unable to function. It is shown early [spoiler]that this pendant with the power symbol that when activated allows electricity to work within a certain range of the pendant. They even make an amplifier to increase its range which allowed the bad guys to use a chopper to attack the good guys showing everyone watching how royally fucked everyone ones, creating an even greater emphasis on why the advancement of technology is a double edged sword when you are staring down the multi-barrel of a mini-gun.
