I'm not blaming Seth for anything either. Family Guy, and certainly American Dad still have a level of class. A lot of their humor is topical and is kept in mind for people with at least a certain level of education, and an understanding of their area around them. Frankly American Dad is one of my favorite cartoons on TV.
Mr. Pickles reminds me of Metalocalypse, more than it should. Death Metal intro, with a voice VERY similar to Brendan Smalls. The dog is named Pickles, like the drummer to Dethklok. Also, Metalocalypse is also violent in nature, but I happen to be a fan of that show as well, probably because I love death metal.
Rick and Morty is also on Adult Swim, and is also pretty edgy, but I think it's great as well. Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland are great writers, and I hope Rick and Morty stays on air for many seasons to come. It IS my favorite cartoon on TV. If you're a fan of the show, feel free to PM me if you're curious about the pilot. The pilot is so NSFW I can't post it here at all, haha.
I'd also like to point out that, although most of it is tasteless, you have to keep in mind what kind of audience you have. I'm in school to be a journalist, and frankly, I'd love to just sit and write about how cool comics and video games are. If there were a Newt magazine, it'd be the "Comic book and video games" magazine, and the only articles included would be about Moon Knight and League of Legends. Unfortunately, that's a terrible idea when it comes to making money. If you want to make money, you have to ask yourself, "What do the people want?" What's selling right now? What's "hip?" If edgy and gross are the two big things, even if you hate the idea of it, your job, to put food on the table for yourself and your family, is to make something edgy and gross, and do it so damned well, you don't get fired.
The creator of King Star King failed in his attempt to be edgy, gross, and good. He only found two of the three important pieces of his demographic. Rick and Morty is Edgy, but its fanbase grows literally every episode, and they were signed on to a second season before the first half of the season even ended. That's a promising sign, if I ever heard one.
