Even so, I am not a big fan of side scrolling type fighters like this, but it's cool for those who like those games and Pokemon games

That's called a 2D fighter, which pretty much every successful fighting game franchise is. 3D fighters like DBZ games from Budokai Tenkaichi 1 and onward tend to do poorly in comparison. By all rights, this game using a Tekken like engine should produce the best product possible for a pokemon fighting game.

Personaly, I like DBZ fighters over Tekken. I preffer the feel of each game (at lest the older games) to the hard to master controls of Tekken.
