However, unlike him, I never played it as a kid and this was my first time actually beating it. However, the first Paper Mario was one of my favorite games as a kid and I don't have enough fingers to count how many times I beat it.
It's a more challenging RPG than the first is all I can say. However, I'm just not sure it had the same level of humor as the first game. The first game is much shorter also... but I'm not sure that's a bad thing. I kinda of steam-rolled my way through the game: 20 hours to be exact. The Shadow Queen is indeed a tough battle, but my combined team of Yoshi, Admiral Bobbery and Vivian pulled through (those three specifically since they all have attacks that hit everyone on screen so I could keep destroying the Shadow Queen's hand to stump her attack).
It's a fun game for sure, but I still don't like it as much as the first N64 one. Paper Mario just holds a special spot in my heart.
I'm going to be the opisate. Out of the three Paper Mario games I've played (haven't played Sticker Star), I would rate them TTYD, Super, and than 64. As much as I liked Paper Mario 64, I can say that it really is not what I'm looking for in a Mario RPG. Super has a better story but really wants to please the platfomers and the RPG players at once and it comes off as gimicy some times. TTYD was great by having a good story as well as fixing up what 64 already had. I really have not played a bad Mario RPG (YET).
I also know that I'm going to get flack for this but Paper Mario 64 is leaps and bounds ahead of "the best RPG of all time," Super Mario RPG.
