I actually didn't play too much this past year, just going to rattle a few off in no particular order.
1. Smite. Great game, tons of fun and far more action packed than other mobas out there.
2. South Park: The Stick of Truth. Funniest game ever made, with elements from my favorite RPG ever made.
3. Smash Bros. Great party game with a fun new actual party gamemode.
4. Risk of Rain. Technically released in late 2013, but I started it in the spring and hot damn is this game addictive. Phenomenal game with an enormous emphasis on teamwork and customization. It provides an engaging challenge without kicking you in the balls, and uses randomness well to encourage exploration and strategy.
5. Binding of Issac Rebirth. Far from a simple reskin, fixes a ton of problems with the original while only adding a few new ones. Personally, I dislike some of the new design choices, but it still draws you in and spits your shivering carcass out.
6. Shadow of Mordor. Visceral fun that, for the most part, cuts the crap and keeps you at gear 10 for the whole game.
7. Savant Ascent. A killer mobile app without much depth, but is crazy fun to play. Check it out.
8. Hand of Fate. Still in early access, but 100% playable. A really interesting take on the Arkham combat style with some incredible atmosphere. Play at night with the lights off for optimal fairy taleness.
9. Lovely Planet. The most frustrating flower game I've ever played. Keeps your interest with consistently interesting levels and great core mechanics.
10. Titanfall. While plagued with poor design choices, the core mechanics of the game feel great with a fast paced movement system and satisfying shooting mechanics.
