In some cases modding the game can actually improve it to the point of playability. Stalker is a good example of this. If I never put the ZRP mod on I apparently would've had to deal with quests I couldn't complete, AI that barely functions and more glitches than ever. With the ZRP mod it nullified these to a large extent.
For other games, like L4D2. I'll mod it so it feels like my game. So for example. Nick is Phoenix Wright and Rochelle is Maya. The Desert Eagle is a Gold Revolver, and in general a lot of the weapons have been changed to look more realistic and interesting. I have also made the game somewhat easier by making the health kits and pills a bright glowing yellow colour so I can see them if they're in a dark place.
Well, for me I'll mod a game to the point that it's Vanilla with sprinkles.
