It's not just complaining either, some people get absolutely upset about it and go on rants about how these people aren't "real gamers" and just having zero understanding of how speedrunning works.
With my rant over congrats to the guy for beating the record by quite a bit of time.
The way I see it is that a speedrunner should play the game just to get to the end as fast as they can. To use a glitch to phase though the wall seems like cheating the sestem. I get it that there are shortcut and easy ways to get though the game but most of them were put there by the devlopers or were acidental oversights. Theres a diffrance between jumping over a ramp in a raceing game, using the super cape in Mario World, or whatever you do in Super Metroid to get a faster time and using a glitch to get to the end of Mario 64 with 0 stars in 5 secends.
To me, this is not fun. I'd rather see someone use Star Roud to get to Bowser in Mario World then see someone glitch though the stairs to get to Ganon in A Link to the Past. You might as well put in a Space jump, God mode, or a level select in the cheat menu just to get to the end of the game. It's about the same thing.
